This is Michael Rieter, a Tournament Director for The Fila World Golf Tour. These photos were taken very late in the afternoon as the light was fading. The one on the left was shot with available light, the one of the right using flash-fill. My intent in using the strobe was to take the excess warmth (red) of the late-day light out of his skin tones. As can be seen in the photo on the right, the white light from the flash accomplished this resulting in a photo having more natural skin color. A bonus side effect of using the flash was that it bought me one extra stop in aperture (f-4 to f-8) which gave me a slight increase in depth-of-field. The trees in the background, the spray from the water fountain and the ripples on the lake are all better defined in the flash-fill shot bringing the subject more into context with his surroundings.
