      When used to soften shadows rather than to compensate for extreme EV spread the reflector should be positioned more in front of the subject and less to the side. In this example the reflector was not brought around far enough and shadows remain harsh in the area of the left eye and on the left cheek. Just a few more degrees from side to front in reflector position and these shadows would have been eliminated just as effectively as were those on the subject's right side.
