This is the ferocious California State Park dwelling Ground Squirl. This deadly (really!) beast hangs out in the Sierra Mountian campgrounds feeding off of the tourists. It will come right up to you and eat out of your hand. But don't let it do that because it also carries the fleas that give people the black plague; so look, but DON'T TOUCH! I "captured" this one at a campground in Joshua Tree State Park in the high desert about 50 miles east of Palm Springs.
