14 August 1993 Phoenix convention: Armin Shimerman reports that there were
4, not 2, movies planned.

Late November 1993 news (no source): The movie's script is still in
decision. It'll be one of two different stories, each has spots written in
for the TOS characters. One script has a "heavy Data theme" and the other
a "heavy Riker theme". The only question is, which one is going to be the
first movie, and which is going to be the second. This may be from Rick
Berman from the TNG fan magazine.

5 March 1994: Paramount will build all-new sets for the second TNG
film with the 1701-E ("The big E^2?").

12-13 March 1994 South Bend Creation con: Mike Dorn said he has signed on
for three TNG films.

3 December 1994 Indy Creation Con: Doug Murray said there was a rumor
that in the 8th movie we would see Picard promoted to Commodore and
Riker would finally get the Captain's seat permanently (on board the
Enterprise-E). He said that both would still serve on the ship.

December 1994: The following was found in the York Multimedia Society
database (http://www.york.ac.uk/~socs107):
According to Richard Arnold (who isn't always right, but when he
is, he's usually very accurate), a script is already in
preparation for a second Next Generation movie. This will show
that the rest of the Borg were unaffected by Hugh's return (in
"Descent") and are still a dangerous force. This time they will
arrive in force to assilimate [sic] the Federation and the film will
include some spectacular space battle scenes.

mid-January 1995 Creation con: It was apparently stated that all of
the next generation cast has signed up for at least five more motion
pictures, to be produced over a period of ten years. All, that is,
except for Brent Spiner (Data) and Patrick Stewart (Picard). Spiner
has expressed concern over being typecast as Data and Stewart just
doesn't know if he can get into a movie that will pay him more. In
any case, Picard will not be commanding the new Enterprise (which
definitely will be commissioned in the next film). Riker is definitely
going to be the captain, with Picard (who will be promoted to
commordore if he appears) as the leader of a fleet of ships brought
together for some undisclosed purpose. [A lot of this info seems to
conflict with just about everything else that has been reported, so
I'd take this with a grain of salt. --ed]

Early February 1995 London convention: Murray Park mentioned that it
was reported that there would be a new ship for the next movie, and
that all but Patrick Stewart and Brent Spiner had signed on for a
three-movie contract. Rick Berman is hoping to release a "Producer's
Cut" of Generations on LaserDisc which will put the 30 minutes back
that were cut from the movie [looking at the script, that would
probably by the opening mix of Kirk's orbital skydiving, the footage
of Soran operating on Geordi, and possibly the original ending of
Kirk's death that was shot. --ed] It also looks like they plan to
use the Borg script (with multiple Borg ships) for the 8th Trek movie.

Mid-March 1995 Edmonton convention: Denis F confirmed that most of
the actors were signed for a three-movie deal, that they are planning
to have the 1701-E, that Captain Riker will be at the helm with
Picard promoted to Commodore with a fleet of ships headed by the
Enterprise-E, and that Spiner and Stewart are the only ones not to
have signed multi-film contracts. Also mentioned at the convention
was that Paramount is allowing Spiner time off for other projects in

return for him doing future movies, there is a *completed* script in
which Q brings together the crew of TOS and TNG, and that the time frame
for the action in ST8 will be about 1 year after the occurances from ST7.

16 March 1995 (Starlog): Brent Spiner has said that he will be aboard for
the 8th Trek movie. He has taken a lot of heat for a previous comment in
TV Guide where he said he would not be in it.

21 March 1995: Paramount Pictures has entered into an agreement for Rick
Berman to produce and co-write the next Star Trek film, with principal
photography projected to begin in 1996. Berman produced and co-wrote the
story for "Star Trek Generations," which has achieved a worldwide gross
to-date of US$101,117,380 for the Motion picture Group of Paramount
Pictures. The film is being released internationally by United
International Pictures (UIP).

The issue of Cinescape that came out in June had info on ST8 (writer,
Borg involvment, etc).

Late October 1995: There was a joke post going around about the next movie
being "Star Trek: The Next Stand", which no one believes, and the only
true points were the inclusion of the Borg in the upcoming film. This
script had the Borg decimating DS9, Worf sent with the Defiant to Earth,
Worf ramming the Defiant into a Borg vessel kamikaze-style, getting
beamed out by Picard (in his starship JimKirk), who rendezvous with the
rest of the cast (including Cpt Riker and 1st Officer Data in the
Enterprise-E) in the badlands, Gowron is assimilated, Picard has Geordi
borgify him, etc. If you want to see this script, it is archived at
http://www.primenet.com/~robhood/nexttrek.html

November 1995: The rumors seem to point to Dorn negotiating a ST8 role for
himself as part of his deal to do DS9.

20 November 1995 Hollywood Reporter: Patrick Stewart has signed on to to
ST8 and will receive around $5,000,000 for it. Brent Spiner is still in
negotiations to appear in the film.

11 December 1995: The Dec/Jan issue of Star Trek Communicator says that
the Borg will be co-villains with some undisclosed bad guy(s), Picard will
have a (female) love interest, and the script is going through re-writes.

21 January 1996: Generations and DS9 staff illustrator John Eaves already
has an "Enterprise-E" design approved by Rick Berman. It's reportedly
long-nacelled like an Excelsior-class but a flat, Voyager-like profile
(still with recognizable the saucer/engineering section and two nacelles,
but more dart-like).

23 January 1996: NEW YORK (Variety) - The film will involve the Borg and
Time Travel. Frakes will direct.

5 February 1996: News sources report that the movie will feature time
travel in order to show us the founding days of the Federation. There are
also unsubstantiated rumors that:
 - the major villain will be played by Christopher Walken (who is asking
for $4,000,000) and Yaphet Kotto (who would play the villain from the
past). One bad guy will kill the other by the end of the movie.
 - Emma Thompson is being considered for the role of Picard's love interest
 - a major character will die by the end of the film
 - the movie will feature the Romulan Wars of the 22nd Century
 - Picard is promoted to admiral/Riker will captain the Enterprise
 - Picard will lead a fleet of ships against the Borg in one of the most
spectacular space battles of all time
 - The Borg travel back in time in order to assimilate Zephram Cochrane
before he can invent the warp drive, thus changing the future (much
   like "Yesterday's Enterprise" did)
 - The movie will feature trips to the American Civil War and Renaissance
   England
Again, these are unsubstantiated rumors and should be taken with several
grains of salt.

11 February 1996: One more unsubstantiated rumor: Sisko's appearance in the
upcoming movie is a go, although it will be in an extremely limited
capacity. He will only be in the opening minutes of the film and will
make about $60,000. This almost supports the October 95 script that was
posted to the net.

11 February 1996 (Nwew Haven Register): Marina Sirtis reports that while
she hasn't read the script yet, "appearently I get to get drunk in a bar."

15 February 1996 "Inside Trek": Contrary to popular rumors, the following
people will *not* appear in Star Trek 8: Wil Wheaton, John de Lancie,
Whoopi Goldberg and Jonathon Del Arco. There will also be *no* members of
the TOS cast in this movie in any capacity. The movie will feature at
least one sequence that "puts the Enterprise crash from 'Generations' to
shame." Ron Moore and Brannon Braga have completed the second draft of the
screenplay to Paramount's satisfaction.

Early March 1996 Globe (the tabloid) reported that Data will receive human
flesh from a "Borg Queen" and proceed to have sex with her. While these
rags rarely report much in the way of truth, it should be noted that The
Globe accurately reported the general story-line of "Generations" almost
18 months before its release!

14 March 1996: Unsubstantiated rumors (probably from someone who stumbled
upon the famous faux script) have the Defiant appearing and possibly being
destroyed.

20 March 1996 New York Daily News Hollywood column: Frakes says that an
offer's out to Alfre Woodard to play the love interest of Captain Picard
(Patrick Stewart) in the film. And, says Frakes, they're still casting for
the key roles of "Zephrim Cochran, the man who discovered warp drive, and
the Borg Queen--she's half-woman, half-cyborg and our most vicious and
hostile villian."

25 March 1996 New York Daily News: Alfre Woodard has been offered a part
in the film. The article also reported that the key role of Zephram
Cochrane is as yet uncast.

10? April 1996 Variety (then reported on Entertainment Toniight): James
Cromwell has accepted the part of Zephram Cohrane. Alfre Woodard has also
joined the cast, playing the part of a civilian who must accompany Picard
on a journey to save the Earth from the Borg.
