Paul Hindemith:
Mathis der Maler (1932-1934)

Composed on a text by the own composer in a conflictive period on german history, with the settling and expansion of the National Socialist politics, Hindemith paraphrase himself in the figure of painter Matthias Grünewald as center of a plot which confront the power of an intolerant State with the one from the People. The boycott decreted over his music by the Nazi Party since 1935 impede the premiere of the opera in Germany; first performed, at last, the 28th of May 1938 in Zürich, when Hindemith has began his exile, corroborate his author as one of the capital musical figures of that moment.
