Elliot Goldenthal: SPHERE

I have to recognize my special affinity towards the music of Elliot Goldenthal, an author of recognized prestige but of uncertain popular acceptance, perhaps due to his peculiar and avant-garde style. In these pages we already have referred us to his work in a constant and close way, as well in his cinematographic facet -Michael Collins (1996), A Time to Kill (1996)- as well in the concert one -Juan Darién (1988), Fire Water Paper (1995)-, stressing so much his evident sound inheritance of his musical teacher, the also composer John Corigliano, as the spectacular, but difficult to listening, timbre and rhythmic result. All this is evident, once again, in his score for Sphere; fourteen cues of similar nature, that creates a special ambient for this adaptation of the scientific fiction novel of Michael Crichton, among those I will like to emphasize as perfect examples of the style and produce of his excellent author the initial Pandora's Fanfare, as well the very personal and impressive Terror Adagio.
