Leo Steadman loses his war with cancer, a situation that his son Michael is
unprepared for despite having known that his father's death was imminent.
As overwhelming as the grief itself are the details of death: the obligatory
phone calls, retrieving the body and arranging for it to be shipped to Chicago
from Philadelphia for burial. And Michael must handle these details alone,
after unfinished business between his brother Brad and him comes to a head
over money.
Brad, who has been taking care of Dad's business, is angered when Michael
shows a belated interest in the company finances while admitting that his
knowledge of the garment industry amounts to "never cut velvet in
springtime." Even the small comforts--shared remembrances over shot

There, Nancy's literary prowess surprises Michael, whose own writing is, as his
professor bluntly puts it, too "cute and clever". So he tries again, and in his
quest for honesty, uncovers something about himself: he's attracted to the "new"
Nancy that has emerged since her separation from Elliott. In fact, he's so
attracted to her--and so scared by his fantasy about her--that he covers up those
feelings, and instead incorporates into his story a very private memory Elliott
related to him.

fear that lurks beneath every look, every conversation.
