ABOUT THE SHOW:

"Major Dad" follows the story of the single, dedicated marine Major
John D. "Mac" MacGillis, whose life completely changed when he met,
fell in love with, and married reporter Polly Cooper, who had come
to interview him for an article critical of the marines. They were
opposites: he was orderly, she was not, he was conservative, she
was liberal, he was a lifelong bachelor, she brought her three
daughters into the marriage.

In the first season, they were stationed at Camp Singleton, near
Oceanside, California, but the producers wanted to portray a realistic
marine lifestyle despite the comedy, so for the second and subsequent
season, the MacGillises were stationed at Camp Hollister, in Farlow,
Virginia. To reflect other real world situations, the prospects and
eventuality of the Gulf War were written into the scripts, as were the
later base closures.

"Major Dad" was an S.B.B. production at Universal City Studios, Inc.
