HOLLYWOOD LASHES OUT AT PAPARAZZI
Many Hollywood celebrities have lashed out at the aggressive paparazzi who tried to capture photos of Princess Diana which resulted in a car crash that killed the princess. Diana and boyfriend Dodi Al-Fayed died in the crash as the high-speed chase involving the paparazzi behind them with cameras trying to get a glimpse of the princess.
Actor Tom Cruise called CNN and told them how he felt about the tragedy.
"I've actually been in that same tunnel being chased by paparazzi, and they run lights, and they chase you and harass you the whole time. It happens all over the world, and it has certainly gotten worse. You don't know what it's like being chased by them. It is harassment under the guise of, you know, 'We are the press, we are entitled,' and when people are having a private moment, they should be allowed to have a private moment," Cruise said. "I think we need laws for what is harassing an individual."
Many other celebrities have expressed their horror and sadness over the death of Diana, and they want tougher regulations on this aggressive behavior. "It's sick that this happened," says Andre Agassi, tennis star, "Let's hope human society can learn from something like this, because if they can't, the whole world is in trouble," Agassi said.
ER star George Clooney lashed out at Steve Coz, the editor of the National Enquirer saying, "As for you, Mr. Coz, and your colleagues, the Princess of Wales is dead. You have gone on television and you have washed your hands and you have placed blame and deflected responsibility, and yet I wonder how you sleep at night. You should be ashamed." Pointing out that the week's Enquirer cover shows a picture of Diana with the caption, "Di Can't Get Enough Sex," Clooney raged, "I watch as you scramble for the high ground, saying you won't purchase these pictures. Pictures of a dying princess trapped in her car. I'm impressed. What ethics."
