The daughter of Doctor Michael Twoyoungmen, Elizabeth was promised by her father that her mother would not die due to a severe illness she had contracted. When her mother died, Elizabeth resented her father and left home. She eventually became an archaeologist, and whilst on a dig freed a trapped evil spirit. Calling on her father for help, it was discovered that she was destined to be the Talisman, a mystical guardian of Earth. She accepted the role, and donned the mystical talisman but discovered that she could never remove it. She joined Alpha Flight but, during one of their adventures, was lost within her father's mystical pouch. Freed later by the Beyonder, she became vengeful against her father and tricked him into birthing Snowbird's baby within a place that held an evil spirit. She intended to defeat the spirit to show-up her father, but the spirit defeated her, ripping the talisman from her forehead. Passing out from the intense pain, her father donned the Talisman to defeat the spirit, becoming the new guardian against evil. Elizabeth returned to her archaeological studies but, discovering an ancient cairn, she was contacted by the spirit of Snowbird that warned her of the coming of Dreamqueen. She contacted Alpha Flight, resumed her mantle as Talisman, and together defeated the Dreamqueen. Her greatest challenge was against Llan, who was attempting to open the Gateway of Night to destroy the world. Talisman opened the Gateway of Day and the two cancelled each other out, defeating Llan. Soon afterwards, she encountered the Master and in an attempt to defeat his Remnant Men, had to filter through all of the magic within Shaman's pouch, a feat which left her comatose. After a while she recovered and was used by the new Omega Flight to release a race of flesh-eating demons onto the Earth, which she defeated.
