A highly amusing film about an ex-con named Pressure (Robinson), who after being released from prison, cooks up a scheme to gather up enough funds to go straight and start a racetrack of his own. At first he tries the direct route of requesting a loan from a bank, but when that fails he decides that he and his two criminal lackeys (Crawford and Brophy) will instead rob the bank. According to his thought-through plot he purchases a luggage store, the cellar of which is right up against the bank's vault. At this point, he and his boys get started tuneling under the ground towards the vault. All the while, he puts on the front of a respectable businessman, and he wins the respect of his fellow shopkeepers. At first he tries to keep all customers out of the luggage shop, but instead much to his distaste, business starts to boom, and he learns that legitimate business can be profitable. Robinson is excellent in this gangster comedy, and Crawford, Brophy, and Wyman provide strong back up support. The film also contains a small part with a young Jackie Gleason as a eavesdropping soda jerk.
