Marine Raiders

(1944)

Marine Raiders Cover

1/2

Average war movie focusing on the efforts of the marines in the Pacific during World War II. The story follows two marine officers and friends, Major Lockhard (O'Brien) and Captain Craig (Ryan), as they move from Guadalcanal, to Australia, back to the states, and then out to fight again on another South Sea Island. Along the way their friendship strains, Craig falls in love and is wounded, and many brave marines end up dead or wounded. The film quality is not very good and the script is very un-extraordinary, but on the other hand the acting is good, and there are a lot worse movies out there.

Stars: Pat O'Brien, Robert Ryan, Ruth Hussey, Frank McHugh, and Barton MacLane
Director: Harold D. Schuster
Setting: Pacific, Australia, California
