Daytrippers, The (1997)-Well I really liked this movie. Itwas pretty low-budget, but they made it work. Liev Shrieber, Parker Posey, Stanley Tucci, Hope Davis, the whole cast really made this movie watchable. It tells the story of a wife who thinks her husband is having an affair and her and her family go into town to dig up clues to see if its true or not. If you get the chance, rent it sometime, its very amusing. B+
Deep Impact (1998)-I really enjoyed this film. It had a few too many characters that later went on undeveloped, leaving the viewer to care less if they are killed by the comet, but the movie was exciting and emotional and they pulled it off to be very believable. B
Dirty Work (1998)-A rather hit-and-miss comedy from Norm MacDonald has him opening a revenge-for-hire business to make $50,000 to get his best friend's father a heart transplant. Yeah, not a quality plot, but lets MacDonald get into his deadpan routine and some good revenge pranks along the way. I'm glad I waited and rented it. C+
Disturbing Behavior (1998)-Students at a high school seem to be changing overnight from delinquint to grade A students. Uneven film was rumored to be edited big-time for its theatrical release and it really shows in the video version. But there is some good stuff here, but they are few and far between. The lead character doesn't really look like he is a high school student AT ALL. Katie Homes fans--good stuff here. C
Dr. Dolittle (1998)-For some reason I expected this film to be a little funnier and the humor that was in it was pretty dirty for some of the younger audiences. Chris Rock seemed wasted to me--not allowed to use his four letter words as much as he'd probably like. But the movie was pretty good despite the fact that most of the funnier gags are seen in the previews. C

Edward Scissorhands (1990)-Tim Burton film about a man who has made with scissors for hands and his introduction to the "real" world through the eyes of Tim Burton. Lots of laughs as Depp, who plays Edward deals with society, but the one thing that bothered me was Winona Ryder's quick desire to be with him. It seemed unatural to me. That was my only qualm though. B+
Elizabeth (1998)-What turned out to be the "other" Elizabethan Era movie of 1998, this movie ain't too bad. It had some really good actors in it that played good characters (Eccleston, Rush, Fiennes, Blanchette).I haven't see Christopher Eccleston in anything since "Shallow Grave" and was good to see him again. But anyway, Elizabeth was well done, chronicling the conspiracy to overthrow the Protestant Queen and how she deals with it. B+
Emma (1996)-Gwenyth Paltrow plays the title character who plays matchmaker with her best friend in this Jane Austen adaptation. It's veyr funny and witty, and the cast is fun to watch, especially Paltrow. Ewan McGregor is fun to watch as well as the gentleman after seeing him in "Trainspotting" and "Shallow Grave". Paltrow seems to be at her best when sporting an English accent. B+
Empire Strikes Back, The (1980)--Number 9 on Nothingman's Top 30
Enemy of the State (1998)-Lawyer Will Smith is secretly given evidence that could rock the government and now a government TASK force is out to get it back--at whatever cost. Pretty slick actioner from Tony Scott has some good action sequences and Will Smith is pretty entertaining. The story--well--is kind of there, but basically this movie is just an entertaining way to spend a couple of hours. B-
E.T. The Extraterrestrial (1982)--Number 21 on Nothingman's Top 30
English Patient, The (1996)-I finally got around to seeing this movie recently, and it wasn't bad. I had heard mixed things about it and finally got to decide for myself. I liked the way the movie was structured, that gave it most of its beauty.B+
Eve's Bayou (1997)-Story about a young girl who sees the problems with her family and the way she deasl with them. Her dad goes around town sleeping with other women and she can only imagine how her mother deals with it. The little girl who plays Eve is really good, as well as Samuel L. Jackson, who is always great. This was the director's first time out, so that makes this film even more impressive. B

Faculty, The (1998)-Another Kevin Williamson movie, but this one a sci=fi excursion. But still it's unmistakably Williamson and I really enjoyed it. Everyone I have talkedto have all described it as "fun", which it was. It's not really the best movie, but it is definately a lot of fun. There are some really good scenes in the film--the teachers are all badass, and the scene where they take snorts to see who among them may be an alien is hilarious. Check it out B+
Fallen (1998)-Denzel Washington stars in this thriller about a demon that moves between bodies and that they believe cannot be killed. Some good moments in it, but the whole thing kind of loses it towards the end. The first guy to be incarnated with the spirit, after the one guy was killed was pretty creepy, but everyone afterwards really wasn't. C+
Fargo (1996)-Number 15 on Nothingman's Top 30

Game, The (1997)-Number 22 on Nothingman's Top 30
Gingerbread Man, The (1998)-An okay movie, and an okay John Grisham adaptation (they've gotten very bland lately) where a lawyer tries to sva ehis innocence and a woman's in the midst of an oncoming hurricane. Some exceptional talent seems wasted in this film and it could have been much better. Why Robert Altman chose to make a Grisham movie--we'll never know. C+
Godzilla (1998)-Well, they hyped it too much. Size may matter, but I think it all depends on how you use it. I liked this film, but only the parts with Godzilla. They could have left out like, all the talking. I suppose they gave the audience what they wanted--the destruction of New York, but they really didn't give us that. They destroyed maybe three things we associate with New York (Madison Square Garden, Chrysler Bldg., and the Brooklyn Bridge). Where's Times Square, Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building? Destroy those. What's the point of placing it in New York if you don't work off our knowledge of the city. Trying to make us sympathize w/ Godzilla while having her/his offspring murdered was bizarre also. Oh well. C
Gone With the Wind (1939)-Well being
the film buff I am, I decided I had to finally see this movie.
And I was glad I did. The task did seem a bit daunting at first,
I mean an almost 4 hour movie about a spoiled rich girl in the Civil War, didn't sound appealing to me. But the movie was
expertly paced as to make it go by really fast. And for a film
made in 1939, the movie is incredible. Hell, it'd be incredible
if it was made the same way today. I'm glad I finally sat down
and watched it, it was well worth my time. A
