Malice (1993)-Thriller starring Alec Baldwin, Nicole Kidman, and Bill Pullman has surgeon Balwin botching a surgery on Kidman and ends up aborting her baby and accidentally taking out a good ovary. Kidman blames husband Pullman for allowing Bladwin to take out her ovary and decides to sue the hospital for $20 million. Only then does Pullman discover what is really going on. Okay thriller is interesting, with a nice plot twist and Pullman has a nice turn once he gets the upper hand on Kidman. B-

Mask of Zorro, The (1998)-I enjoyed this film. Antonio Banderas has a good screen prescence as does Anthony Hopkins, so they're both fun to watch. Its also very funny and they make you REALLY hate the bad guys and you're just like "kill him, zorro, kill him". Plus I really like swordfighting in movies and this has a lot of it. Plus Zorro's love interest is scene-stealing as well *wink*. A good summer movie. You'll enjoy. B+

Mean Streets (1973)-One of Scorsese's early mob films chronicles Keitel and his prodigy Johnny Boy (DeNiro) who keeps screwing up and Keitel has to bail him out. Lots of interesting stuff here and you can see why it put Scorsese on the map. Good performances all around, and the ending is especially potent. A

Midnight in the Garden of Evil (1997)-Well, I thought I would enjoy this film a little bit more, but it got too long and drawn out and I soon began to lose interest. I love Kevin Spacey and he was interesting in the parts he played. John Cusack and the actor/actress who played the Lady Chablis were very good as well. The movie captured the strangeness of Savannah, but it could have been a little shorter and to the point. C

Mr. Jealousy (1998)-Eric Stoltz stars as Lester, a very jealous man and when he meets Ramona (Sciorra), he becomes obsessed with her past lovers, especially one, Dashcle, and he joins his group therapy under his best friends name. Lots of cool stuff here and great performances by everyone around. Funny stuff. I seemed to really relate to this movie. Hmmmm. A-

Mulholland Falls (1996)-Chinatown.James Ellroy knock off has cop Nolte obsessed with the death of a beautiful woman (Connelley) he once had an affair with. Movie seems to just end without any real umph! One redeeming quality was the casting of Connelly, who has been the object of my affection since appearing in "Career Opportunities". Malkovich is good, but Nolte at times seems to be overdoing it. I was just a little disappointed is all. C

Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie (1996)-Well, this movie is much like the show, it just doesn't have any commercials. They do a good job of dissing the movie in this film--and its just as funny as the show, if not funnier, but I'm sure some of the shows are funny, it really depends on the film they are making fun of. This one was pretty bad. You constantly catch new stuff with each viewing cause there's SOOO much stuff. B

N
National Lampoon's Animal House (1978)-Popular movie about fraternities is still pretty damn funny about 20 years later. The Deltas, a fraternity constantly getting drun and throwing outlandish parties, has been put on "double secret probation" and the dean is trying to get them kicked off campus. The whole cast is amusing, especially Belushi, Matheson, and Hulce. B+

Negotiator, The (1998)-I thoroughly enjoyed this film. But I didn't see how i could be disappointed--Kevin Spacey AND Samuel L. Jackson, I mean, come on. But it was also a clever story and a good mystery and the acting by the supporting cast was excellent as well. A damn good movie. A-

Night Flier (1998)-I like Stephen King, which is why I rented this film. I thought the idea was rather interesteing, a guy flying from town to town killing people, and was fairly scary, but the movie didn't do much for me. I just sat there, rather uninvolved. I'll say this--it could have been better. One thing I did like was how they kept the night flier unidentified through most of the film--only revealing his identity at the end of the film. C-

O
Object Of My My Affection, The (1998)-I found this movie surprisingly good. I really liked the characters and felt for their ordeal, somewhat. Paul Rudd was really good as the gay man who wants to try to have a family and then must choose between which one he truly wants more. Aniston was pretty good too, but she got really bitchy when Rudd was off doing his thing, as she would most liekly do, but it just made her seem like the bad guy instead and you didn't sympathize with her as much becasue of it. B

187 (1997)-Samuel L. Jackson stars as a teacher who tries to get back into the profession after he was stabbed in the back 10+ times by a student. He picks up his life in LA and immediately runs into problems with local gang members. When violent acts start occuring to the students, another teacher wonders if he is taking the law into his own hands. I liked this film because it shows how difficult and frustrating, and unrewarding teaching is these days. It also shows what can happen when you push a teacher too far. B

Opposite of Sex, The (1998)-One of the best movies I've seen this year, it was just so brutally honest and Ricci's narration is just so blunt and honest, it's very refreshing. The movie goes in and out of these character's lives very nonchalantly and then they're back again and all the characters are very interesting and fun to watch that you really don't mind. Christina Ricci is really good in this movie, but some of the other charatcers will surprise you too. See this. A-

Out of Sight (1998)-I liked "Get Shorty" and I also liked "Jackie Brown". I also liked this movie. All the actors were good, Rhames, Lopez, Clooney, Cheadle, and Steve Zahn. Director Steven Soderberg also helped add style to the film, which was very stylish. He handled much the way "Jackie Brown" wa sdone, where the story kind of goes back and forth in time and we're supposed to catch up--I like that though because it keeps the audience in the film. This movie does entertain. B+

P
Palmetto (1998)-This movie reminded me of "Wild Things" in that the plot kept getting twistier and twistier. For a minute there I was like, how the hell is he going to get out of this. It was a pretty smart little movie that was pretty unpredictable at times, excpet for the ending, it all pretty much fell apart from there, because you kind of expected so and so to happen. But up until then, the filmmakers kept pulling the rug out from under you, just as Harrelson get the rug pulled out from him numerous times. B

Parent Trap, The (1998)-Update of the 60's classic starring Haley Mills is okay for kids I guess but I wasn't much up for it. It's got a lot of silly pranks the girls play on each other until realizing that they are sisters and immediately stop bothering each other (hah!). Quaid and Richardson are good in the adult leads, not hamming it up (well) like the otehr stars, but rather trying to take it seriously, for the parents that may have to endure this movie perhaps. Once again, good for kids, tolerable for adults. C

Patch Adams (1998)-Robin Williams stars as Patch Adams, a doctor who hates the way doctors are taught to be doctors and tries to be a better doctor by communicating with the patients. Williams is hilarious, with humor coming all over the place. Some of the critics dissed the film for being too sentimental and calculated, and Willaims preformance for being too vaudvillian. Maybe so, but it's funny as hell. B+

Perfect Murder, A (1998)-I liked this one too. This was a fairly unpredictable film that kept me guessing a lot of the time. At times I would think I'd have it figured out, and then I wouldn't. I loved Michael Douglas. he's so good in these yuppie kind of roles (Wall Street, The Game) and he's very evil in this film. I think director Andrew Davis may have finally made us forget "Chain Reaction". B+

Q
Quiz Show (1994)-Robert Redford dircted this true story about a phony game show in the 50s. Fiennes plays the son of a socialite who tries out for the games show and gets on. To keep him on the showm the producers give him the answers and he goes along. Rob Morrow plays an investigator who finds out about all of this and tries to bring the show down. Good performances all around, also by John Turturro. If you missed this one, check it out. A-
