US Marshalls (1998)-Actually, this movie was better than I thought it would be. I found it quite entertaining. Not astounding filmmaking, just entertaining. I really enjoyed the Fugitive and just couldn't imagine a sequel without Harrison Ford, who made a much better innocent fugitive than Snipes did. But Tommy Lee Jones was very compelling reprising his acamdemy award nominated role. It surprised me I guess. B
Usual Suspects, The-Number 2 on Nothingman's Top 30 Films
U-Turn (1997)-Well, we all know Oliver Stone is a little out there, but here he kind of calms down and makes a film that is made roughly in the same film stock. This movie is not for everyone. The film ribs small towns and makes them seem like hell on earth when stuck there. (I had an experience with car trouble in a small town and I felt much the same way.) The film is rather gory toward the end, but is fun to watch because of the insanity running lose in every single character. They are all CRAZY! B-

Varsity Blues (1999)-Predictable high school football story is highlighted by some interesting characters and high school drama, and few strip club scenes. Jon Voight is good as the iron-fisted hard-ass coach and pretty boy Vander-Beek is good as the lead, Mox, the benchwarmer who finally gets his chance to be the star QB. B

Waiting For Guffman (1997)-Hilarious mockumentary about a fictional town called Blaine, Missouri and their theatre group, head by Corky St. Clair. The group plans to put on a 150th year annversary play for the town and a talent scout named Guffman is supposed to come and makde the play Broadway Bound. But we are the only ones in on the joke--THEY SUCK!! This movie is so funny because these people actually take themselves seriously. Very funny. B+
Waking Ned Devine (1998)-Funny little comedy about a small town in Ireland where one of the 50 or so residents have one the lottery--and the search for that one person begins. The two leads are very amusing and the nude motorcycle ride is hilarious. The movie is a bit mean spirited at times, but even during those moments, you can't help but smile. A-
Waterboy, The (1998)-Adam Sandler pic has him as Bobby Boucher, a waterboy who uses his pent up anger to become a football star at his college. Not much of a story here, but it's pretty damn funny. Kathy Bates is especially funny as Sandler's mom who won't let him play "the foolsball". Good for some silly laughs. B
What Dreams May Come (1998)-I expected this movie to have more of a kick than it did. As it turned out, I was constantly looking toward the exit. It had some good parts in it, but mostly it was pretty boring. The movie itself was beautiful, but the story wasn't pulled off right. I mean, they had the cast, there was just something missing. I don't know what it was. C+
Wild Things (1998)-Oh man! This movie is worth it for Denise Richards and the little threesome her, Matt Dillon, and Neve Campbell get involved in. But, it also has a cool little story and all the actors are interesting because they constantly change. It has so many plot twists that you are constantly wondering what's going to happen next. Kevin Bacons says it best: "People aren't what they appear to be". B+
X
X-Files: Fight the Future, The (1998)-I cannot recommend this film enough. I'm a regular fan of "The X-Files", but would not consider myself an X-Phile. But this movie was unbelievable. After the opening scene set in East Texas in 35,000 BC, the action never lets up and the audience is in for a ride. And the chemistry between Moulder and Scully is so unbelievable that the viewer cannot take their eyes off of them, they are very watchable. It's funny, action-packed, suspenseful--everything we love about a summer film. B+

You've Got Mail (1998)-All you romantics out there will like this movie from the team that brought us "Sleepless In Seattle". Hanks plays a book mogul who takes over Ryan's little independent store all the while he's chatting anonymously with her over e-mail and they are falling in love with each other while hating each other. Hanks and Ryan are so good together that you just can't wait for them to get together at the end even though it never seems possible. B+
Z
Zero Effect(1998)-I really enjoyed this film. Anything with Bill Pullman is good, AND it had Ben Stiller. I was quite surprised that Ben Stiller was playing straight man to Bill Pullman though, but it worked amazingly well. It was a good little mystery and it was pretty funny, cause Pullman played a totally wacky private detective. I highly recommend this one. B+
