Some of my friends used to think I looked like Velma out of Scooby Doo(left) but I don't have an orange jumper!
My name is Catherine O'Grady. I live in Coventry, UK and have done my whole life really. I was born on November 7th 1965, which makes me 34 at the moment.
I have two brothers named Paul and Simon, and still live close to my family.
I am a primary school teacher at Good Shepherd Primary School in Coventry, and have been there 10 years. It's a very tiring but rewarding job. I teach all subjects and I teach 10/11 year olds.
I went to St Thomas More and Bishop Ullathorne Schools in Coventry-(any old pupils out there?) then to LSU College of Higher Education in Southampton where I studied for a B.Ed honours degree. I loved being a student- it is a great life and I made some good friends.(Any other LSU students out there?)
I first got into Xena:Warrior Princess in about January 1997. I had heard vague things about Hercules and Xena but thought they were just another American action series. However, as fate would have it, there was nothing I wanted to watch on tv, so I thought I'd see what Xena was like. The episode was The Greater Good, and I was immediately hooked. I was surprised at the drama of Xena's apparent death, and the humour that the character Salmoneus brought to the show. I loved the outrageous fight scenes, and thought Lucy Lawless was wonderful straight away. I was kind of lucky as I still think this is one of the very best XWP episodes.
I started to really get into it more thanks to the internet where I met other fans, and realized how popular the show was around the world. A UK fan sent me tapes of the first series episodes I had missed, and it made me realize what a high standard the producers had maintained. The next step was starting up this web site, I just wish I could figure out how to publicise a bit more.
I have been a big film fan for years. The greatest advance in feeding my appetite has been the opening of a multiplex cinema in Coventry. I think all this criticism of them as souless, and a yearning by some people to return to the old flea pit days are rubbish. Now you can watch films in comfort on big screen with a great choice of films. Most smaller pictures can also be seen there, and you don't have to worry about having your car stereo pinched or getting a parking ticket. However, there are a lot of unimaginative films churned out these days and so many brainless action pictures it can sometimes be depressing. I have a growing library of Film Reviews at my other home page.
I have always been a tele addict and I love a lot of shows like Star Trek- all but the original which I went off when I was about 10 and realized that I had seen Kirk snog every female species there was! I also am a big X Files fan.
My other obssessions include sports. I am a MEGA Steffi Graf fan, and Wimbledon Fortnight is my idea of heaven. I support Coventry City FC, which as any Coventry fan knows is more painful than it sounds. Coventry always seem to struggle, but survive just about. I enjoy watching most sports but especially tennis and football. I don't watch US sports- I don't get the appeal of basketball, American Football is confusing and you can't see anything in ice hockey. I quite like baseball, but that's it really.
I am a big music fan too. I play the guitar- I'm pretty good (and modest!). My favourite is Joni Mitchell- who I share a birthday with. She has tried so many different styles over the years, but I love her lyrics and the style of the woman. Genius.
I also like Talking Heads, Nanci Griffith, Sheryl Crowe, Terry Callier, Manic Street Preachers, Skunk Anansie, Rolling Stones, REM, Counting Crows, Kate Bush, Catatonia, Seahorses and others I can't think of.
I have always been into technology and I think the home computer and the internet are fantastic advances. The only problem I have is that I know hardly anyone who shares my enthusiasm. Oh, lots of people I have met online, just nobody in real life! My family and friends have no idea I am such an addict, although that is beginning to change. There is no avoiding computers these days.
I hope you like my Xena page and maybe you would like to have a look at my original homepage where I expand on some of my hobbies, well, there are lots of film reviews and pages on some of my favourite tv shows. Visit
