She had a few fans within the military and aristos. But the poor adored her. She was their fanatasy of the working -class kid made good and the " diamond in their dull, grey lives ", dazzling them with her jewels and minks. For the role, Madonna had a record 80 dresses, 39 hats, 45 pairs of shoes, 56 pairs of earrings and 42 hairstyles. The movie starts with her death which prompts the good citizens to beat their breasts, clutch each othern weep and sing. " An EVITA Nite at the Golden Globes. A Happy Madonna winning the Best Actress for a Musical/Comedy Category "

Two future movie Projects have already caught her eye: a biography of Tina Modotti, the photographer and political revolutionary, and a movie version of the musical Chicago (in the role Bebe Neuwrith currently plays in the hit Broadway revival). " While I am still interested in directing. I know that sounds very trite and boring, but I am going to. I just have to do it when the time is right. "

" Madonna showing some class at the 1997 Oscar Night by getting Best Song for EVITA. Beautiful singing commented by Andrew Llyod Webber. "
