COTTON FIELDS
One source credited Huddie Ledbetter as the
songwriter but I wasn't able to confirm this. It's more likely that it's
based on an old southern slave plantation folk song from the 1800's.
When I was a little bitty baby,
My momma would rock me in the cradle,
In them old cotton fields back home
When I was a little bitty baby,
My momma would rock me in the cradle,
In them old cotton fields back home
CHORUS:
Oh when them cotton balls got rotten,
You couldn't pick very much cotton,
In them old cotton fields back home,
It was down in Louisiana
Just about a mile from Texarkanna,
In them old cotton fields back home.
It was over in Arkansas
When the people there said, "What'd you come here for?"
In them old cotton fields back home,
It was over in Arkansas
When the people there said, "What'd you come here for?"
In them old cotton fields back home,
(CHORUS)
It may sound a little bit funny,
But we didn't make very much money,
In them old cotton fields back home,
It may sound a little bit funny,
But we didn't make very much money,
In them old cotton fields back home,
(CHORUS)
