Dinosaur : This fully computer animated film is directed by the supervising animator of The Nightmare Before Christmas, Eric Leighton. The cast of voices are D.B. Sweeney, Ossie Davis, Julianna Margulies, Joan Plowright, Della Reese, Kiefer Sutherland, Alfre Woodard, Daryl Bruce, Jonathan Harris, Hayden Panettiere, Pete Siragusa and Samuel E. Wright. Nice : Helen Hunt is in negotiations to star in Nice which will be based on the Jen Sacks novel published last year. The film will be produced by Denise Di Novi and Hunt. Hunt’s may play an attractive young woman who is too nice to break up with a string of suitors who bore her, and begins to think that burying them would be easier than leaving them. An Equal Music : Sydney Pollack (Random Hearts) will direct An Equal Music which is based on the Vikram Seth novel. The pic is a love story about a male violinist and a beautiful pianist who never get over the love affair they had while students. Though she’s married, they fall in love again, and confront a dark secret from the past. The Talisman : Steven Spielberg and Kathleen Kennedy will teaming up to exec produce a four-hour ABC miniseries based on the 1984 novel The Talisman by Stephen King and Peter Straub. The plot of the novel follows a young man’s perilous journey to find a mysterious talisman that holds the key to saving his mother’s life. His travels take him into a parallel universe discovered by his father, a treacherous world where the son is forced to battle demonic forces at every turn. The project also marks the second major TV miniseries Spielberg has committed to exec produce after a 20-hour alien abduction miniseries Taken, which is set to run in the fall of 2000 on cabler the Sci-Fi Channel. Ace in the Hole : Bruce Willis (Breakfast of Champions, The Story of Us) is attached to star in Ace in the Hole. Willis may receive the standard $20 million payday and he was also attached to produce the movie with David Willis, his brother. Pic concerns a con man (Willis)mastermind released from prison and free to make a new life for himself who finds himself blackmailed by a shady gambling kingpin under investigation by the FBI. No director has yet been attached but Josef Rusnak (The Thirteenth Floor) may direct. The Great Gatsby : Mira Sorvino (Mighty Aphrodite) will star in The Great Gatsby. Sorvino will portray Daisy Buchanan, Jay Gatsby's beautiful, wealthy lover, who is trapped in an unhappy marriage to an abusive man. The pic tells the story of how Gatsby's love for Daisy leads to tragedy. No other roles have been cast for the TV movie, which will begin shooting in September. Lakeboat : Joe Mantegna will make his directing debut on a film adaptation of the early David Mamet comic play Lakeboat. Tony Mamet who is the writer's younger brother also stars in the cast which includes Charles Durning, Peter Falk, Robert Forster, J.J. Johnston, Denis Leary, Jack Wallace and George Wendt. The dark comedy centers on a high-brow grad student (Mamet) who takes a summer job on a Great Lakes freighter, where he is introduced to life as seen through the eyes of his low-brow crew members. The shooting began in Ontario this week. Dr. T and the Women : Tara Reid (American Pie) has been set to join Dr. T and the Women. Robert Altman will direct the film which stars Richard Gere and Helen Hunt. Reid will play one of Gere's daughters in the movie about a gynecologist's midlife crisis. Shooting starts in November. The Patriot : Joely Richardson will play the romantic interest of Mel Gibson in The Patriot. Roland Emmerich will direct the film which also stars Tchéky Karyo as Jean Villeneuve, a French major who joins Benjamin Martin's (Gibson) militia during fighting against the British during the war. The films' script is written by Robert Rodat (Saving Private Ryan) and pic is a dramatic adventure about reluctant hero Martin and his son's (Heath Ledger) journey as they struggle to keep their family together while fighting to gain America's freedom. Richardson will portray Charlotte Selton, the sister of Martin's deceased wife, who goes underground with his children when the war breaks out. The shooting begin on September 7. Shaft : Busta Rhymes is set to star in the remake of the 1971 film Shaft. Samuel L. Jackson will star in the film as Shaft and Rhymes will play Shaft's sidekick Rasaan in the John Singleton-directed film. Update : August 19th,1999
Remember the Titans : Denzel Washington is in negotiations to star in Remember the Titans. The film is based on the true story that recounts the tensions that arise when a black coach (Washington) is chosen to lead the newly integrated football team. The coach and his white assistant are able to get along while leading their tense team to a successful season. The producer will be Jerry Bruckheimer (Con-Air). The Apartment : Joel Schumacher won't direct The Apartment. The movie is a remake of a French thriller. There are negotiations with Freddie Prinze Jr. and Kate Winslet to star. It's also unclear what impact this will have on the projected start date of the film. Now Schumacher is looking for another movie to direct. One of these projects is named Tigerland. It is about former grunts who are taken to the backwoods of Louisiana in 1971 and trained to fight in Vietnam in a mock Vietnamese village. There, the recruits are taught to forget their humanity as they prepare for atrocities ahead. Update : August 18th,1999
The Legend of Bagger Vance : It is reported that Will Smith and Robert Redford are trying to team up in the golfing picture The Legend of Bagger Vance. Redford will produce and direct the $70-million project and if signs Will Smith will play the titular character, a sagacious black caddie who doles out advice to linksmen during a 1931 golf tournament. The story is based on Steven Pressfield's novel. Mad Max 4 : Director and screenwriter George Miller told BBC that Mel Gibson is keen on taking the role one more time. Miller also added that "People have been waiting for Max's return for a long time. It's going to take Max in a new direction." He concluded saying "Who'd have thought 20 years ago that people would one day be nostalgic for the apocalypse?" The Patriot : Jason Isaacs (Armageddon) will join Mel Gibson in The Patriot for director Roland Emmerich. Isaacs will play the head of the Green Dragoons, the most deadly branch of the British fighting forces. His brutal assault against an American family provokes a father and son (Gibson and Ledger) to join the fight. Beautiful : Sally Field will make her directorial debut next month with Beautiful. In the indie film Minnie Driver will play a young woman obsessed with becoming a beauty queen. Leslie Ann Stefanson (The General's Daughter) is in talks to sign for the movie. Shooting will take place in Los Angeles. Update : August 17th,1999
Minority Report : 20th Century Fox announced that production of Minority Report, has been pushed to January. That also pushed its release date from next summer to a holiday 2000. The movie stars Tom Cruise and directed by Steven Spielberg. Also Matt Damon is negotiations to star in the film. The script is written by Jon Cohen. The 51st. State : Ronny Yu (Bride of Chucky) will direct The 51st. State which stars Samuel L. Jackson. The movie is an action comedy and Jackson plays an American master chemist who heads to England with the aim of setting up one last drug deal. But what he thought would be easy becomes complicated. Shooting will begin early next year in Los Angeles and Liverpool. New York Film Festival : The 37th annual New York Film Festival will start on September 24 with Pedro Almodovar's autobiographical All About My Mother and conclude October 10 with Atom Egoyan's adaptation of William Trevor's novel Felicia's Journey.
