Supernova : Walter Hill will remove his name Supernova. An action-adventure about a rescue crew that responds to a battered salvage spaceship, only to find that a black hole threatens to destroy them, Pic has been troubled from its outset, with Hill replacing original director Geoffrey Wright (Romper Stomper) two months before the start of principal photography in April 1998. The film's shoot and post-production were marked by what one source described as "extreme creative differences" that culminated in Hill leaving the film after submitting an edit in February. Anti-Trust : Ryan Phillippe (Cruel Intentions)will get $1 million dolar to star in Anti-Trust. Cruel Intentions cost $10.5 million and grossed $90 million. Phillippe will play a computer programmer whose dream job at a Silicon Valley firm turns nightmarish when he discovers his boss has a secret and ruthless means of dispatching antitrust problems. "Mamet getting ready to direct Alec Baldwin, Sarah Jessica Parker and Patti LuPone in the comedy State of Maine,there's no way David was going to read 15 pages of our notes," says Snider, "and then be avavilable to work on the script day-to-day." Stars Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins is waiting patiently to read the script. The studio has been hoping to begin shooting Hannibal in the spring. Hopkins' rep, Lois Smith, is convinced that the change to Zaillian will not hurt the project. "Everybody likes David," she says, "but it's not like we're losing with a Steven Zaillian. This is not a life-or-death thing." Against the Glass : Jennifer Aniston may star in romantic comedy Against the Glass. Pic is the story of a young woman (Aniston) who agrees to be observed by a psychology class via a two-way mirror in exchange for free therapy sessions. When she discovers that her ex-boyfriend has joined the class in an effort to win her back, she turns the tables on him.
The Legend of Bagger Vance : Jack Lemmon is negotiating to star in The Legend of Bagger Vance. The other cast includes Charlize Theron, Matt Damon and Will Smith. Pic is drama about a championship golfer who, upon his return from war, is offered a shot at redemption in a pro tournament. Robert Redford is directing the picture which is in production in Georgia. The Sixth Day : Michael Rapaport (Metro, Copland) and Sarah Wynter are set to star opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger in The Sixth Day. Action-thriller is the story of a man (Shwarzenegger) who discovers a clone has replaced him. The budget is around $40M. Roger Spottiswoode (Tomorrow Never Dies) is directing the pic. This Man, This Woman : Meg Ryan has left the drama This Man, This Woman after Sean Penn dropped out of the pic. Ryan, who previously worked with Penn in Hurlyburly, wanted to reteam with the actor. To the White Sea : Brad Pitt attached to star in To the White Sea for the writer-director-producer team Coen brothers (Fargo, Barton Fink). Pic is based on James Dickey's novel about an American tail gunner who's shot down over Japan during WWII. The soldier must then start out an epic journey across the frozen wastelands of Northern Asia to return home. The Heist : David Mamet, who is scripting the sequel to Silence of the lambs : Hannibal, may direct Tommy Lee Jones, Danny DeVito and Gene Hackman in The Heist. Jones is the master jewelry store burglar, and DeVito is a co-conspirator; while Hackman is Jones' rival to lead the gang.
The Path to War : Barry Levinson, has agreed to direct and executive produce The Path to War for HBO. Sources say the original screenplay by Daniel Giat pulls whole pages of dialogue from White House tapes that the government has released over the last couple of years. No casting is in place yet about the escalation of the Vietnam War film. River Road : Writer-director Andrew Niccol (The Truman Show, Gattaca) will direct his latest script, River Road. The film centers around a man yearning to escape his surroundings — in this case, a fictitious border town. Striving for a better life, the man takes residence in the town with the ultimate goal of crossing that border to the other side — a plan he undertakes mainly because he’s told he cannot. Once he gets to know the locals, however, they have as much an effect on him as he does on them, and both are permanently changed. Update : October 19th,1999
One Kill : Anne Heche is set to star in One Kill. Also Sam Shepard is in negotiations to play opposite her. Christopher Menaul (The Passion of Ayn Rand) will direct the pic which is based on a true story of a female Army captain (Heche), who has an affair with her commanding officer (Shepard). He winds up stalking her after their breakup and breaks into her home, where she shoots him after mistaking him for a burglar. She is court-martialed for his murder before being acquitted. Unbreakable : Writer-director M. Night Shyamalan (The Sixth Sense) broke spec sale records when Disney paid $5 million for his action drama Unbreakable. With producing and directing fees, the 29-year-old Shyamalan's total payday will tally $10 million. He will also receive significant backend participation. The highest previous spec sale was the $4 million that New Line Cinema paid to Shane Black for Long Kiss Goodnight in 1994. Unbreakable, which is expected to go before the cameras in April, may also star Samuel L. Jackson oppoiste Bruce Willis. The Black Knight : F. Gary Gray and Chris Tucker are in serious negotiations to helm The Black Knight after their first collobration Friday. The pic is about a down-and-out theme restaurant employee who is transported back to medieval times with Tucker or Chris Rock in mind. Weekend Box Office : After four years after starring in Twelve Monkeys together, Brad Pitt and Bruce Willis face off at the box office this Friday with a pair of very different films. Pitt and Edward Norton star in the violent thriller Fight Club while Bruce Willis star teams up with Michelle Pfeiffer in the romance The Story of Us. The World is Not Enough : The new 007 movie The World is Not Enough has been scheduled to open on Thursday November 18th in Singapore and Malaysia, one day before its US release date. Reasons for the move are so that the film did not have to compete with the Arnold Schwarzenegger supernatural thriller End of Days which opens in December.
