Hannibal : Preproduction on the sequel to The Silence of the Lambs has quietly begun. The shooting is scheduled to start in spring in Florence, Italy. Producer Dino De Laurentis, director Ridley Scott and set designer Norris Spencer are in Florence scouting locations. Hannibal again centers on the relationship between brilliant serial killer Dr. Hannibal Lecter and the young FBI agent who challenges him. De Laurentiis said Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster would decide if they want to reprise their roles after reading Steven Zaillian's (Schindler's List) rewrite of David Mamet's draft. This draft will have a different ending than the book.

Arnold Schwarzenegger : Arnold is back from a two years absence. End Of Days has opened yesterday in North America and this time Schwarzenegger fights with the devil to save the world. The movie is directed by Peter Hyams and also stars Gabriel Byrne, Robin Tunney and Kevin Pollak.

Kevin SpaceyPay It Forward : Kevin Spacey is in final talks to play a disturbed teacher in Pay It Forward. The film which will be directed by Mimi Leder (Deep Impact) concerns a teacher who is physically and mentally scarred from child abuse (Spacey), his student and the student's mother. The title comes from system of goodwill implemented by the young student as a way to improve the world. If a person does you a good deed, you pay it forward by doing something nice to someone else. Helen Hunt is in talks to play the mother. Leslie Dixon (The Thomas Crown Affair) adapted the novel.

Revelations : Danny DeVito is in negotiations to direct the supernatural religious thriller Revelations. The film is the story of a cop who, during a St. Patrick's Day ceremony, takes a bullet intended for a cardinal. As his wounds heal, the officer's search for the shooter dovetails with his own religious re-examination. If a deal is made this will be the first directing job for DeVito after Matilda. The story is by Michael Petroni.

Star Wars 2-3 : Sci-Fi Universe reports that a team-up of Sony Electronics and Panavision Inc. will create a prototype 24-frame progressive high-definition digital camera system for Lucasfilm. This camera system will be tested out over the next few months in preparation for shooting on the next two Star Wars films. This will also be the begining of filmless filmmaking.

Cameron Diaz Charlie's Angels : According to Hollywood Reporter, Lucy Liu (Ally McBeal) has signed a seven-figure deal to star as the third angel opposite Drew Barrymore and Cameron Diaz in the big-screen version of the 1970s TV series Charlie's Angels. Principal photography for the film has been moved to a Dec. 6 start, with music video director McG making his feature film directorial debut. The project is without an actor to play the role of Bosley. The role had been offered to Bill Murray, but sources said talks recently collapsed.

The Cider House Rules : The trailer for the upcoming movie starring Tobey Maguire, Charlize Theron and Michael Caine is released. The film tells the story of a young man raised in an orphanage under the patronage of the abortionist who also runs it.

James BondWeekend Box Office : The two new films made very strong openings. The new James Bond movie The World is not Enough took $37 dollars and got the first spot while Tim Burton's Sleepy Holllow came second withj 30.5 million dollars. Last weeks's winner Pokemon was third and Denzel Washington thriller The Bone Collector was fourth.

Angel Eyes : Jennifer Lopez is negotiating again for the starring role in the drama Angel Eyes after refusing the offer last month. The studio and star were only $1 million apart from her $8 million asking price. The film tells the story of a female cop who bonds with a man coping with the death of his wife and son. 

Pearl Harbor : According to Hollywood Reporter, The Walt Disney Co. has said yes to the most expensive live-action film ever greenlit, Jerry Bruckheimer and Michael Bay's $145 million Pearl Harbor (a k a Tennessee). While Titanic and Wild Wild West have cost more, no movie has been given the go-ahead with such a high price tag. he film centers on two brothers caught up in the events that drew the United States into WWII. One of the them enlists with the U.S. Air Force and the other flies for the RAF; and both brothers get involved with the same woman. The screenplay is written by Randall Wallace (Braveheart).
