The Patriot : The trailer for the new Mel Gibson movie Patriot is now available. In the film, Gibson plays a pacifist farmer who, along with his son, becomes involved in the American Revolutionary War. The director ris Roland Emmerich and the other cast includes Heath Ledger, Chris Cooper and Joely Richardson.

Gangs of New York : The New York Post reports that Alberto Grimaldi, producer of Last Tango in Paris and The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, is suing to block production of Martin Scorsese's next project, Gangs of New York. The historical film, which stars Leonardo DiCaprio and was slated to begin filming in April, is budgeted by Disney at nearly $100 million. Grimaldi claims he's been working on the project himself for two decades, and is seeking to collect $10 million from Universal (which originally had the rights), Disney, Scorsese, Michael Ovitz, and others. The paper reports that Grimaldi is alleging breach of contract, saying Disney and Universal went back on their promises to give Grimaldi credit as producer.
Eddie Murphy : Eddie Murphy and his wife Nicole Murphy had their fourth child, a girl named Zola Ivy. The couple who had been married for six years had other children Bria, 10; Myles, 7; and Shayne, 5.

Mask 2 : MSNBC reports that a sequel to The Mask
is in the works over at New Line Cinema but it is unlikely that Jim Carrey
will return to his role. Five years ago Carrey got $450,000. Now he is asking
a price of $20 million -- more than the entire production budget of the
first Mask film. A spokeswoman for Carrey has confirmed the star has no
plans to return to the role, saying the actor is now looking for "meatier,
more complex roles."
Goya Awards : Pedro Almodovar's All About My Mother collected 14 Goya award nominations for The Spanish Goya awards including best actress (Cecilia Roth), best director and best picture. La Tongue of the Butterflies received 13 noms, including best picture, director, leading actor and adapted screenplay. The winners will be announced January 29. All About My Mother is also a stornfg candidate for best foreign language film.

Hannibal
: After Anthony Hopkins confirmed that he'll be back for
Hannibal, everybody was waiting for the final decision of
Jodie Foster. Variety reports that Foster had passed the project
to direct her film Flora. In various X-Files fan sites, it
is rumored that show's lead actress Gillian Anderson is being considered
as the first choice for a replacement when shooting begins in Italy in April.
It is also reported that Foster suggested Clare Danes for the role.

Wars: Episode I : According to Hollywood Reporter,
Phantom Menace will be available on VHS April 4, 2000. No
DVD release date has been announced. George Lucas has never permitted
a DVD release of any of the Star Wars films. In the meantime The Matrix
still holds the best-selling DVD of all time record.
Romeo Must Die : Official Site has released the trailer for the Jet Li, Aaliyah, Russell Wong and Delroy Lindo starrer Romeo Must Die. The film is loosely based upon William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. You can also sheck out the official Jet-li site by clicking here.

Box Office : Oliver Stone's american football drama which
stars Al Pacino was the number one movie this weekend. Matt Damon
starrer The Talented Mr. Ripley was a close second. Another
debutant was Jim Carrey's Andy Kaufman biopic Man On The Moon
which took $9 milion. Toy Story 2 and The Green Mile
still held strong against the new movies.

Mummy II : Variety reports that John Hannah has signed a $1 million deal to reprise his role of Jonathan Carnahan in The Mummy II. The rest of the original cast is also expected to return. Jim Jacks and Sean Daniel are finishing a script with writer/director Stephen Sommers for a 2000 shoot.
