Kevin Spacey - Annette BeningScreen Actors Guild Awards :The SAG awards are announced and American Beauty was again the big winner. Kevin Spacey and Annette Bening won the best actor and actress awards, plus entire American Beauty cast received the award. Best supporting actress Angelina Jolie for Girl, Interrupted and best supporting actor Michael Caine for The Cider House Rules.

Directors Guild Awards : Director Sam Mendes won the DGA feature film award with American Beauty. It also makes Mendes, an acclaimed British stage director who had never before helmed a film, the clear favorite for the Oscar: Only four of the previous 51 DGA honorees have failed to win the Academy Award. Thank you to the studio for giving a bloke from England a movie about the American suburbs," Mendes said. "A year ago, I was not even a member of the DGA."

Gangs of New York : Academy Award-winning screenwriter Steve Zaillian (Schindler's List) is working with Martin Scorsese on Gangs of New York which stars Leonardo DiCaprio. The project is currently budgeted at around the mid-$65 million and starts next month in Rome. The film is about the Irish gangs in New York. Zaillian most recently adapted Hannibal

Love's Labour Lost : The musical comedy adaptation of the play by William Shakespeare is directed by Kenneth Branagh. The cast includes Kenneth Branagh, Alicia Silverstone and Nathan Lane.

Mission to MarsWeekend Box Office : The futuristic space drama Mission To Mars which stars Gary Sinise and Tim Robbins was the top movie in America this weekend. Johnny Depp starrer The Ninth Gate came second, while family film My Dog Skip enjoyed a terrific sophomore frame climbing 3% from its national debut last weekend. After spending three weeks on top of the box office The Whole Nine Yards dropped down to fourth place. The next four films grossed very close numbers so the final figures to be released tomorrow.

Sixth Sense : The Sixth Sense surpassed Home Alone and became the 11th highest grossing film of all time in North America. The Bruce Willis - Haley Joey Osment starrer reached $285.9 million passing Home Alone's $285.5 million box office.
