Billy Crystal61* : According to Hollywood Reporter, Billy Crystal has chosen Barry Pepper (Saving Private Ryan, The Green Mile) as his second actor for his project 61*. Pepper will play the New York Yankees' Roger Maris in the movie about the competition between Maris and fellow Yankee Mickey Mantle (Thomas Jane) to break Babe Ruth's home run record in 1961. The film is a pet project for Yankees fan Crystal, who had been good friends with Mantle for 20 years until his death in 1995. "When he was alive, he always said to me: 'You should direct a story about me if they ever do one; I trust it with you,' " Crystal said.

Pink Panther : Kevin Spacey, is in talks with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc. over whether he will play the French detective Inspector Clouseau in a remake of the Pink Panther movies. Chairman Chris McGurk said during a conference call that a script was about 80 percent finished, and producer Ivan Reitman could begin shooting by the end of this year. Peter Sellers originated the role of Clouseau for the original 1963 Pink Panther movie, in which the French inspector hunts down a jewel thief who has stolen the legendary Pink Panther diamond.

Scream Scream 3 : It is reported that a teen-ager wearing the mask used in the Scream horror films stabbed his father and stepmother the day after the third movie opened in France. The 16-year-old's two victims were recovering in the hospital, and magistrates placed the youth, under official investigation for attempted murder. French television reported that another teen-ager had been arrested after being found near a suburban train station carrying a kitchen knife and dressed as the Scream assailant. He told police he wanted "to frighten" a man who had just attacked him.

Edges of the Lord : THR reports that Haley Joel Osment and Willem Dafoe are set to star in the indie war drama Edges of the Lord. The film is told through the eyes of a brave Jewish boy (Osment) trapped in Poland during the Nazi occupation. Dafoe plays an eccentric, understanding priest who guides a ravaged community's children through a series of humorous and tragic events that come to a shattering conclusion when faith collides with fear. Production is slated to begin next month with writer-director Yurek Bogayavicz (Anna) at the helm.

John Q : Denzel Washington will star in John Q for director Nick Cassavetes. It is a story about a father (Washington) whose son is in need of a heart transplant. The father's insurance won't cover the operation and decides to take matters into his own hands by taking over the hospital's emergency room until the doctors agree to operate. There is no start date set for the project, as Washington has two other films on his plate: Cop drama Training Day and The Antwone Fisher Story, which will be Washington's directorial debut.

Rules Of EngagementRules Of Engagement : Yemen has called on fellow Arab nations to boycott Rules Of Engagement claiming that the film it depicts Yemenis as killers and terrorists, local media reported. The film, directed by Academy Award winner William Friedkin and stars Tommy Lee Jones and Samuel L. Jackson. Al-Sahwa, the official newspaper of the Islamist Islah Party, said the film was a "continuation of a Zionist campaign against Arab and Islamic culture."

Deuces Wild : Matt Dillon and Frankie Muniz joined the cast of Deuces Wild, which starts shooting Monday in Los Angeles. Set in 1958, the drama centers on a group of young people who inhabit the heart of Brooklyn and confront a new era of guns, drugs. Already in the cast are Stephen Dorff, Brad Renfro, Fairuza Balk, and Balthazar Getty. Scott Kalvert (The Basketball Diaries) is directing and Martin Scorsese is executive producing the picture.

Pierce Brosnan : Pierce Brosnan's 16 year old son Sean was seriously injured in a car accident near Malibu, Calif., in which authorities say the driver may have been driving under the influence. Brosnan was one of six occupants of a Chevrolet Blazer that tumbled 150 to 200 feet down the side of a steep, brush-covered embankment.
