Project Title: cHTML to WML Converter - Making i-Mode pages
viewable on WAP technology.
Summary Description of Project:
(Including: Objectives, Background, Source of Ideas etc.)
Firstly, we would like to state that this is not the final draft of our
project submission - we are still seeking information and final approval
on the idea. Our objective is to create a program that enables pages
written in cHTML (compact Hyper Text Markup Language) for i-Mode to be
viewable in WML (Wireless Markup Language), which would make it possible
to view them on WAP technology, such as WAP enabled mobile phones.
The idea for this project came from Mr. Brian Stone, who suggested that
such a program would be useful and would make a challenging and
interesting final year project. The Japanese market never embraced WAP
technology like the rest of the world, preferring to use DoKoMo
i-Mode. They have created an abundance of sites, many of which differ in
content from WAP sites we are capable of accessing. We believe a bridge
between these two technologies would be very useful and beneficial.
Resources Needed:
(Hardware, software, technical assistance, location etc.)
(n.b. Projects must be demonstrated on campus so be sure that you can
achieve this)
To complete this project, we will require i-Mode and WAP emulators. Both
of these are freely available on the Internet, but we would both require
extra memory in order to download them successfully.
We intend to use WML, cHTML and JAVA to implement the project.
