So, like Larry Drake here we have David Johansen,
another no-show in the picture category. That sucks cuz then you could see
what an over-the-top HUMAN BEING David is (visually), not to mention as an
actor. Acting was never his first career. Early in the punk-glam era of
the 70's & 80's David fronted the band THE N.Y. DOLLS and from there had a
stint as a solo artist
culminating in the creation of his alter-ego Buster Poindexter singing in his
own video where the main line is something like..."Feeling HOT! HOT! HOT!"
Anyhooo...from there David landed a bunch of stints in films like SCROOGED
and TALES FROM THE DARKSIDE: THE MOVIE. The great thing about David is he
seems to either take the acting as a joke or just as an excuse to mug for the
camera. I mean the guy loves to make you feel/taste his lines. His delivery
is so lively that you can't help but sometimes say the lines with him. He
has a perpetual twinkle in his eyes and is not unlike some large humanoid
elf come to life. His look is quite unique and you wouldn't expect to hear a
heavy Brooklyn accent come outta his mouth but it does and it still doesn't
dimish his acting. Oh yeah, and he holds a cigarette really well. So if JC
were to cast him in a film I'd say stick him in something where he'd play
someone villanous, I mean, next to Larry Drake, David
is probably the most evil of the bunch in my wish-list and would do well as
someone with a shadowy past a la BRAIN (from EFNY) or HERSHE (from EFLA) or
scuzz bucket WILL DARNELL (from CHRISTINE).
So do you think David Johansen is a good choice? Do you agree or disagree with me? Let me know what you think. If you want to see a particular person appear in a John Carpenter film let me know who it is and I'll start up another page dedicated to actors that viewers of this site want to see in a JC film.
