---[ YUL BRYNNER ]---
One of my all time favorite actors. And the FIRST, true Terminator, like
Ahnuld Scwhazaneggah!!! I mean, really, there isn't that much to say. One
look at Yul and you can see why men and women alike adored him. Originally
born As: Taidje Khan!!!! Waughhhhh!!!! The man was a KHAN just like me!!!!
Anyway, Yul was a class act who stood head and shoulders above any cast he found
himself within (possibly because he was born a KHAN!!). In the TEN
COMMANDMENTS you didn't know who to root for, Ramses (Yul) or Moses
(Charlton Heston). And in THE KING AND I you didn't know whether you were to
despise the King (Yul) or love him because of how eccentric he was. Oh and
about the line about the Terminator comment I made above. Watch WESTWORLD and you'll
see where Yul pulls off one of the greatest portrayals of a killer cyborg ever.
Really frightening stuff, esp. towards the end with the whole chase sequence,
creepy electronic music reminiscient of JC. JC could have had a ball with
this guy, the same way he made use of Donald Pleasance, Yul could have made
some effectively good Carpenter characters. What with his booming, rich
voice and exotic looks. Next to Jean Réno, Yul is the most sought after actor
I'd like to see appear in a JC film. I mean it's not like Yul would have
hidden from roles JC would offer, what with having been in three somewhat
"schlocky" scifi films: THE ULTIMATE WARRIOR, WESTWORLD, and FUTUREWORLD.
Besides, JC has always said how his films are essentially westerns and
how he would love to do a full blown film set in the wild west. Well what
better actor to use than Yul? I mean he did star in THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN
didn't he? Sheesh! It's too bad Yul smoked his life away and croaked in
1985. What could have been...?
So do you think Yul Brynner is a good choice? Do you agree or disagree with me? Let me know what you think. If you want to see a particular person appear in a John Carpenter film let me know who it is and I'll start up another page dedicated to actors that viewers of this site want to see in a JC film.
