BEE GEES TO JOIN FORCES WITH LORD OF THE DANCE
by Desmond Blarney
In an ingenious move that deftly circumvents their well-publicised scheduling conflict at the RDS, the Brothers Gibb and Irish-American dance superstar Michael Flatley have decided to combine their respective talents to form a new song-and-dance extravaganza: The Lord of the Disco.

"It’s gonna be unbelievable," gushed the 39-year-old Flatley. "I should’ve thought of this a long time ago, combining Irish dancing with ‘70s-style disco music. I grew up during the ‘70s, you know, and I was a HUGE fan of ‘Saturday Night Fever.’ The way John Travolta danced with his shirt open really inspired me to develop my own style and to transcend the boundaries of traditional Irish dancing. It was an epiphany, to say the least."

Barry Gibb echoed Flatley’s sentiments. "When Robin, Maurice and I sat down with Michael to try and resolve this scheduling problem, I was struck by how comfortable we all felt with him. He seemed so…English. In fact, he told us that he’d recently bought a house in London! I knew we could have a smashing good time working with each other."

While details of the new show are still being finalised, sources close to both parties have confirmed rumours that Flatley will forsake his black leather pants in favour of white polyester bellbottoms. These sources also revealed that Don Dorcha, his Warriors and the Colleens will be made up to look like Sly and the Family Stone.

The most crowd-pleasing aspect of the show is expected to be the incorporation of Bee Gees music into composer Ronan Hardiman’s Celtic pop-rock score. "Celtic music and disco have a lot in common," Hardiman explained. "Both were declared ‘dead’ a long time ago, but they’ve made a strong comeback over the past couple of years. The Bee Gees are hot right now, and so are we."

The Bee Gees will sing several of their greatest hits while standing on one of the towers occupied by the band. "Night Fever" will replace "Fiery Nights" ("The kids really dig getting down," said Flatley), "More Than A Woman" will be performed right after "Stolen Kiss," and "Stayin’ Alive" will be sung after the Lord’s apparent demise in "Nightmare."

Lord of the Disco will be performed June 28 at the RDS. The show is sold out. All ticket holders will receive commemorative mood rings.
