Marty DePolo takes a bite of a six-month-old hamburger, that, like a good joke, just kills him. But the powers of heaven send him back to earth to act as guardian angel to his best friend, Steve, on the T.G.I.F. comedy, "Teen Angel," which aired during the 97-98 season on the ABC Television Network. "Teen Angel" is a highly satiric and hilarious view of one young man's life and his special spiritual guidance. Marty (Mike Damus) may have earned his wings, but he's still very much a teenager. For him, "touched by an angel" means giving the school bully a wedgie. "The Head" (Ron Glass), a divine, detached cranium residing in heaven, attempts to control this rambunctious angel and teach him a few lessons, but Marty proves to be quite a handful.

Corbin Allred plays Steve, Marty's best friend who is left with a fate possibly worse than death: he's not exactly the most popular guy at school. Marty makes it his mission to turn Steve into a kid as cool as the mega-watt Jordan, a James Dean in well, jeans.

In the premiere episode, "Marty Buys the Farm," Marty makes his ascension, but best friend Steve's life is far from heavenly. Steve's father has recently left the family, his best friend has died, and he's not exactly the most popular kid at school. His mother, Judy, (Maureen McCormick), sister Katie (Katie Volding) and Aunt Pam (Conchata Ferrell) try to cheer him up, but it takes the powers of a Teen Angel to push him out of the doldrums. Marty gives Steve the courage to talk to a pretty girl, stand up to a teacher and begin a new friendship with the school's answer to James Dean, Jordan (Jordan Brower).

Corbin had sympathy for his character, Steve Beauchamp, who is going through the awful trials of adolescence, in Touchstone Television's heavenly comedy "Teen Angel." "He tries way too hard with girls, to the point where he's ready to give up," he says. "Steve just doesn't know how to handle himself yet. But he is trying to learn. You might say Steve is a lost cause looking to be found."

Basically, what "Teen Angel" has going for it most is three good-looking teenagers that are bound for heart-throbism no matter if the show makes it or not. And with the writers who also created "The Critic," the trio and rest of the cast will probably have some terrifically funny lines to say as well.
