My Heart Cries

Disclaimer: Unfortunately, Blair Sandburg belongs to Pet Fly. I wouldn't mind getting my hands on that little cutey.

Thanks for the beta Nanny and your not so gentle urges to post. :o)

Blair Sandburg entered the loft, sullen and alone. Emotionally he was wasted. One too many crime scenes had slowly taken its toll. He went straight to his room...to the one thing that offered a cure for his current state of mind...a way to express and process the things he felt. He lifted his cherished laptop from the desk and sat on his bed. He prepared himself and the computer for the waves of emotion that were to follow. Closing his eyes, he let his mind drift......Then one sentence came into focus...."My heart cries." These were the words that opened the floodgates to his troubled soul. And so it began.......

My Heart Cries

By: Blair Sandburg

How can I look into those tortured eyes?
A small child's innocence stolen by lies.
I cannot help but hear their silent screams,
And see the flickering embers of their dying dreams.

For the children, my heart cries.

We sit and watch as the evil unfolds,
Gathering our children up in its strong hold.
We sit and watch with hearts slowly breaking,
As our future is stolen and their innocence is taken.

For our future, my heart cries.

A mother mourns the loss of her only son,
Another life ended by means of a gun.
Alone she raised him, giving him love and doing her best,
But life dealt the cards and fate did the rest.

For her, my heart cries.

A spark of hope, born of determination and need,
Is killed by evil, nurtured by selfishness and greed.
It is then that a soul falls so deeply into dispair,
When a life seems so shattered, broken beyond repair.

For the hopeless, my heart cries.

A woman lies crying in the darkest depths of night,
A shell of a person forged from desperation and fright.
Attacked, not from passion, but uncontrollable lust,
Stealing her treasures of security, confidence and trust.

For the victim, my heart cries.

For those who seek shelter and a beacon in the night,
I hold out my hands and offer you a light.
I offer you comfort and words that will ease
Your heart filled with sorrow, and I pray you'll find peace.

For you, my heart cries.

Blair read the poem once again. His heart still heavy with emotion, he saved the document and lowered the lid. Removing his glasses, he rubbed weary eyes. He had seen so much violence and the end of so many lives. Secretly he stored his emotions away for no one to find. Then he laid himself down, desperately seeking sleep, another means of cleansing his soul and relaxing his mind.

The end.
