Derek walked into the living room of the house to find Rachel and Alex snacking on some various cheeses and crackers, while reading magizines. It was a very slow week. He sat down, exhausted from his trip to see an old friend of the family and Legacy, only to hear a loud thumping noise upstairs.
"What is that?" Derek asked.
"What do you think? Nick and Michael," Alex replied with a grin, looking up from her copy of a computer science magizine.
"Again? But its the middle of the day."
"If you weren't so busy all the time, going out for projects and cases, you would know this has become a regular occurence around here," Rachel said, a half grin revealing she enjoyed knowing something the precept of the house did not.
"I'll have to have a talk with them. At night, it's their business, but they need to cut it down during the day. What if Kat were to be here?"
"They don't do it when Kat is here, Derek. I already made that rule clear and met with no problems," Rachel stated, returning to her magizine.
"Relax, Derek. They both have the bodies of very young men, which gives them a huge sex drive. Why not take the oppurtunity to enjoy yourself, since it's slow around here? I believe you said to me once, 'You're turning into a work-aholic. When was the last time you went out on a date?' Time to take your medicine, big man," Alex added, giggling at the look Derek gave her.
Derek sighed and poured himself a soda. They were right about one thing. He did need to relax a bit more.
Later that day.....
Derek was looking a bit flustered, trying to sit in the living room and relax, while Michael and Nick just sat across the room from each other, making small, silly gestures at each other, trying to hide their laughter everytime Derek would let out a groan of disapproval. Rachel could hardly contain her laughter either. Alex was out shopping, when a knock was heard at the door. They had given Dominick the day off, knowing how slow it was and how hard he worked, so Rachel got up to answer it. She opened the door to see an unfamiliar woman, waiting there, expectantly.
She looked about 40, had a swimmer's build, and flaming hair with a single streak of grey through it, beginning at her left temple. She smiled at Rachel, revealing some laughter lines that had begun to mark her lovely face.
"Is fang boy home?" she asked in a merry tone.
"I beg your pardon," Rachel replied, very confused by this woman.
"I know he's here. Fang boy! Where are you, you ancient bag of hormones?!" she shouted, smiling as she pushed by a rapidly, becoming annoyed Rachel.
"Janette Panne! What in the heavens are you doing here?" Michael asked, rushing to hug her hello.
As the house members stared, awaiting an explanation, Michael pulled apart from her, clearing his throat.
"Everyone, this Janette Panne.....an old student of mine."
"One of your people?" Nick asked.
"No, she's quite human. She has a unique talent for healing magics. I taught her how to harness them at a very young age. Janette, this is Nick Boyle, my better half."
She and Nick shook hands, and she turned to Michael and whispered, "You're very lucky," which caused Nick to grin stupidly.
"Rachel Corrigan," Rachel said, introducing herself, not hiding her slight annoyance at Janette's manners.
"Sorry about pushing by. I'm afraid it was rather a long trip, and I haven't seen Michael for so long, so my excitement gets the better of me at times."
She shook Rachel's hand, as Rachel's features softened. Rachel gave Michael a look of 'Why am I not surprised?' to which Michael shrugged.
"And last but by no means least, the big boss of the house, Dr. Derek Rayne," Michael stated introducing her to the precept. Derek drew in his breath when he got a good look at her, shaking her hand, but he managed to get out, "It's a pleasure to meet you." Her smile broadened at him, but when he looked away, she mouthed "Gorgeous!" to Michael, though Rachel and Nick did not miss it.
"So, what brings Janette Panne to see me?" Michael asked.
"Can't I look up an old friend?"
"You don't do anything without a reason, especially when taking a trip from Great Britian to the United States is involved."
"I'm here on some business, as well as some pleasure. For business, I'm here to heal an old Native American shaman. He's a good man and has proven he deserves more. For pleasure, Halloween is just a week away, and a cousin of mine is throwing a party. Max and Lizzy told me you were and here, and I thought I'd look you up, see if you would join me. Your friends are all invited, of course. The theme is fantasies."
"I'd love to, but only if we can talk everyone into coming," Michael said with a wry grin.
"I'm game," Nick immediately.
"Kat is spending the night with some friends, after I take her trick-or-treating. I might be a little late, but it sounds like fun," Rachel offered.
"Derek?" Janette asked.
"I don't know. I have work to do," Derek mumbled, unsure about this.
"Derek, do I really need to repeat what Alex said earlier?" Rachel questioned, looking him in the eye.
"Alright, I'll go," Derek admitted, not having any good reason not to.
"I'm sure Alex will be game to," Nick said.
"Alex?"
"She's out shopping. I'll introduce you later," Michael replied, "So....how long has it been?"
"I think almost eighteen years. You know, when we met, you were the handsome, older man, teaching me magic. Now, I've passed you up," Janette laughed, telling her story.
They all sat down, getting comfortable to wait for Alex's return and to hear more about their guest. A couple of hours later, Alex returned. She was introduced and brought up to date. She didn't fail to notice the looks Janette was giving Derek, so she agreed to go along, silently noting to herself to keep Derek out of trouble. Though, Janette gave off an overall good aura, she had a high level of mischief mixed in with her good intentions. She definitely was one to watch.
"Do you need a place to stay?" Michael asked, as Janette got up.
"No, I've already had a hotel booked. I really need to be going. I want to get some rest and freshen up before I meet my employer, tomorrow morning."
"Employer?" Derek asked, frowning, "You charge for healing?"
"C'mon, Derek. I have to pay the bills somehow. Besides, I have a different price for everyone. It depends on what they can afford and what kind of a life they lead. Any excess earnings go to worthy charities. His price is one american dollar. His family is poor, and he is very important to their beliefs. He also has lived a very noble and worthwhile life."
"I see. Forgive my making assumptions. We've just had to deal with so many who abuse their gifts, I tend to suspect."
"No insult taken. I'm just looking forward to seeing you at the party. If you need any suggestions for a costume, I think you'd look great in a toga. I'll see you all later," Janette said, before stepping out, leaving a blushing Derek to suffer the wicked grins of everyone in the house.
"What?" Derek finally had to ask, earning laughs.
Five days passed relatively quickly. Michael met Janette for lunch a couple of times, but she was mainly consumed with business. Everyone in the house had picked out their costumes, except Derek.
"Derek, you have to pick out a costume," Alex scolded, "If you don't get one right now, you are going to be stuck with whatever a shop has left, which is guarenteed to be something you hate."
"Alright, I'll get something today," he promised.
"I plan on holding you to that," she said with a wry grin.
Derek went to get a costume after five o'clock. By this time, many of the big shops were closed for the day. He really wished he didn't have to do this. He hated picking out a costume, but he would have to deal with Alex, if he didn't. He finally found a small, antique costume shop across town.
"May I help you?" an old, smiling woman asked.
"I need a costume for a party," Derek said, frowning slightly.
"I can see you hate picking one out before you even start," the old woman laughed, "Don't worry dear. I'll make this as painless as possible. Now, what did you have in mind?"
"I don't know," Derek replied, smiling and becoming more at ease with the woman's tone, "I was hoping to just look around, until I saw something I could deal with."
"I have a few things I think you might like. So, who is dragging you to this party? Friends? A young woman?"
"Both, actually. The theme is fantasies."
"Hmmmm. I have just the thing for you, hon. It's in the storage room."
The old woman got up and walked into the back. She was back there for over fifteen minutes, so Derek called, seeing if she was alright. She answered, saying it would be just a minute, because she had to search through some crates and chests. When she came back out, she was holding a flowing, golden robe, some golden sandals, and some jewelries.
"The sun god," the woman said smiling, "I think it's just your size, too."
Derek looked at the fine material of the layered robe. It was obviously silk, treated to look like gold. The various layers and folds had been dyed different hues, making it look like it should be on a king. Upon closer inspection, Derek noticed fine pictures were imprinted all over it. They were so delicately done, one could hardly see them if he stood more than a foot away from it. The scenes were of gods and godesses, ruling in their heavens, as well as dragons, monsters, and virtuous knights battling. Derek looked at the jewelry. One was the sun crown, all gold and intricately formed with tiny crystal shaped pieces of gold. He picked it up, not surprised it was too light to be real gold. He also inspected the medallion. While the material for the gold was the same as the crown, the stone in the middle was quite real. It was amber, a large oval piece of amber, with a sunburst design in the center. The sandals felt like wood and leathers, painted and dyed to match the rest. Even with false materials, this costume was very well made and would cost a fortune at any store.
Derek tried on the robe, loving the feel of it. It fit him perfectly, all flowing and regal, leaving his legs at the bottom exposed from five inches below the knee, down. He also tried on the crown, the medallion, and the sandals. Derek looked himself over in a full length mirror on the wall. He certainly could deal with wearing this. The silk felt good upon his skin.
"Yes, that suits you."
"How much will it cost?" Derek asked, wondering if she took credit cards, because he only had just over $75 in his wallet.
"Hmmmm. For you, sixty dollars."
"You can't be serious. This costume should cost a fortune."
"Sweet boy, I've had that costume for sale for over five years, now. No one seems to want mythical costumes so much, anymore. Besides, it suits you so well."
Derek nodded, handing her the money. He made himself a silent promise to bring her a thank you gift of some kind, because he felt like he was really taking advantage of her. She placed the outfit in a box for him, folding it properly.
Derek arrived home to find Alex waiting at the door.
"Well, did you find anything? Let me guess, no. I know you didn't leave until late."
"Actually, dear, sweet, demanding Alex, I did find something," he announced, tapping the box he held.
"Really, what? C'mon, Derek. Let me see what you are going to dazzle us with."
Alex opened the box, before Derek could say no. She gasped as she saw the elegant costume within. It was beautiful, more than she ever thought Derek would find.
"Derek, where did you get this?"
"A small, antique costume shop."
"How much did it cost you? Was it over $500?"
"No. The woman there would only take sixty."
"She must be crazy, Derek. This thing should cost a fortune."
"I'm glad you're pleased. Now, if you don't mind, I would like to put this up in my room, surprise the others. Then, I'm going to have some dinner. Will you join me?"
"Sure thing, you studly sun god, you," Alex said, laughing at the look Derek gave her.
The night of the party arrived. Alex was the first downstairs, showing off her outfit, dressed as Joan of Arc. Rachel came down next. She had elected to go as a Magenta, from the Rocky Horror picture show, the curly, red wig completing the her outfit. Michael and Nick came down. Nick was dressed as Alexander the Great, while Michael was dressed in fine robes, but a silver slave's collar with an "N" insignia identified him as a love slave to Nick. It wasn't hard to guess this was Michael's idea. They all awaited Derek patiently.
Alex was just about ready to go and see what was taking so long, when the boss man himself came down, dressed as the god of the sun. Michael let out a flirtatious whistle, earning an elbow from Nick and order to heel or he would be punished. Derek frowned, considering going back upstairs to find something else, but Alex took his arm, saying how wonderful he looked. Still nervous, Derek allowed himself to be lead out to the party.
The whole house was picked up by limos, arranged by Janette. They were taken across town to the outskirts of the city. The limos stopped and the doors were opened, revealing their destination to be a large mansion, proabably just smaller than their own residence. They walked in to be greeted by a flashing lights of yellows, orange, red, purple, and blue.
The loud techno music was blaring as bodies writhed and swayed to the beat. Nick was familiar with the tune. It was a techno made up of sound clips from Clive Barker's Hellraiser movies. The group looked puzzled, until Michael grabbed Nick, dragging him out onto the dance floor. The two swayed together, arms caressing each other. Nick might have been a little uncomfortable, if there were not several male/male couples dancing, as well as male/female and female/female.
Derek just watched, until Alex and Rachel began chatting with him. He was almost sorry they were there. Watching the floor was quite.....erotic, all the bodies. Part of him was glad for the distraction though. He was slightly aroused, and his costume would do nothing to hide a full erection.
"Some party, eh Derek?" Rachel commented.
"Yes. I really have never been to one quite like this."
"Let's dance," Alex suggested, grabbing them both by the arm and taking them onto the dance floor.
Derek felt a little clumsy to these dances, but soon started letting the beat guide him. Alex and Rachel adjusted faster though, and their bodies rubbed and carressed his. Derek gave in completely to the sensations. It was like being a young man, again. After a couple more songs, the music stopped for a break, while the DJ spoke.
Michael and Nick made their way over to the others, but they all listened intently to the DJ. His voice was slightly scratchy, cold, but it held a hypnotic hum.
"Welcome, my children. It is good of you to find haven in doors on this night of nights. For this All Hallow's Eve has a full moon about. It is truly a night, when all the monsters will come out to play," the voice intoned.
"I've heard that guy," Nick announced, breaking the feeling, "He does a radio show. They call him the Night Crawler. Whoever is throwing this party must had to spend quite a lot just to get him."
"Excuse me," Michael said, walking towards the DJ.
"What's going on?" Nick asked, but the others were just as confused.
"What are you doing here, LaCroix?" Michael asked, not just a slight hint of anger in his voice.
"Why, hello, Michael. It has been so long.....centuries I believe. Didn't you know? I'm the DJ," noting Michael's anger, Lacroix continued, "I wouldn't do anything here, Michael. After all, many of these mortals aren't versed in the supernatural. How would it look, a vampire and Visagorum fighting?"
"If anyone is harmed...."
"They won't be, not tonight anyway. I'm on my best behavior. Jeanette, one of MY children, is the cousin of the family throwing this party, however distant the bloodline is by now. That's why I even agreed to be here, and I promised HER, not you, that no humans would die tonight by my hands. Looks like we'll have to wait for another time."
"Another time, Lucien."
Lacroix just smiled and made a go away gesture with his hands, indicating he had to get back to work. Michael growled slightly at this, but went back over to the group.
"What was that all about?" Nick asked, noting the sour look Michael had.
"Nothing. Just had to say hello to an old.......aquaintance," Michael said, trying to lighten his mood by giving Nick a quick kiss, after which they were both smiling.
"As long as your only dancing with me, tonight. That is an order from your master," Nick said, his grin taking away any hardness the words might have had from another.
"With pleasure, my lord," Michael said, wrapping his arms around Nick.
They started dancing as a group, enjoying the time to spend on a more personal basis, without a threat. Eventually, it was interupted when Janette came up behind Derek, spun him around, and ground herself against him, as Enigma's Mea Culpa was just starting.
Derek was too off guard to say anything. He just followed her lead, praying he wouldn't get too aroused. In the robe, it could be quite embarassing. The rest just kept watching, and soon, the rest of the party had their eyes on the two, as Janette's dance became more and more erotic.
At the end, Derek came out of his haze, as the room applauded. Janette bowed, while Derek just stood there. She smiled, leading him off, wisely staying in front of the bulge that had grown, so no one else could see it. She and Derek sat down, with the rest of the house in tow, eager to chat about what had just happened. Sitting, Derek could safely conceal himself.
"That was impressive. Not many people can drag Derek into a dance like that. In fact, I've never seen it done," Alex commented, enjoying the way Derek cleared his throat, indicating he wanted another topic.
"Well, I just couldn't help myself. I was coming back from talking with some old friends in another room, and I saw Derek in this gorgeous outfit, which accented his handsome legs. I had to do it. Sorry if I made you uncomfortable Derek."
"It's quite alright. I would just prefer a little warning, next time," Derek said, relaxing some.
"Oh? Next time? Does that mean we get to do it again?" Janette lit up at the thought.
"Perhaps, if you give me warning," Derek said, returning her smile.
"Derek, Nick and I need to speak with you," Michael announced.
"Of course, what is it?"
"In private, please."
"Janette?" Derek asked.
"Take the hallway, fourth room on the left. You'll have privacy in there."
The three got up, leaving the girls to chat. As Derek was just turning the corner, he could have sworn he heard Janette ask, "So, do either of you know how big it is?" but it might have just been his imagination.
Once in the room, which was a large, comfortable study, Nick and Michael sat on the couch, leaving Derek the chair. Nick leaned into Michael, leaning his head back to rest against him.
"So what is it you wanted?"
"We've decided we want to get a room. We want a room, that isn't mine or his anymore, Derek. We want our room, a place for us," Nick replied.
"Moving in together like that is a big step, Nick. Are you sure you're ready?"
"We're sure, Derek," Nick smiled at Derek, as Michael kissed his forehead.
"Then, I am happy for you both. There is something I would like to discuss with you. I know what you do at night is your own business, and I know you restrict yourself when Kat or company is over, but if you wouldn't mind constricting your.....sessions.....to the night time, even when it is slow. I know it is hard, as I was a young man myself."
"You could hear us?!" Nick asked, sitting up in surprise.
"We were a bit loud, Nick. I'm sorry, Derek. It really was my fault. I had bought a pair of......restraints, for our own personal use. I am after all, stuck at my sexual prime, as it were. Nick was in the shower, and I couldn't help myself. I fastened myself to the bed, and when Nick came out and saw....well....."
"I understand. All I am asking is that you try to control it in the future. Oh, and Michael, if I had someone like Nick, I do doubt I'd be able to stop myself all the time as well," Derek replied, giving Michael a wink and making Nick blush, "Now, we better get back to the party, before those girls do something we'll regret."
"Don't you mean, you'll regret, boss man?" Nick asked, meeting with a glare, to which he merely smiled.
The three returned to the main room, as the music began to start, but the blaring did not stop them from hearing the sound of the girls laughing and giggling. They sat down, feeling like they had missed a joke, while Derek suspected he might be the source of their amusement.
"So, what was so important that you boys had to run off and discuss it?" Alex asked.
"Michael and Nick needed to talk to me about their living arrangements," Derek stated.
"We've decided to move into a room together," Nick added, leaning into Michael.
"Really? I thought that might be happening soon," Rachel said, taking a glass of wine as a servant brought a tray by.
"Congratulations,"Alex said leaning over to give Nick and Michael a kiss, "I'm very happy that things are working out so well for you two."
Time began to rush by quickly, as everyone was caught up in the festivities. They all drank more than just a little wine. When they weren't dancing or talking and drinking, Janette was rushing them around to introduce them to people. Most of the people at the party were relatives of hers or their lovers, and not just a few were gifted in minor magics.
A middle aged man even tried to awe them with some illusions, but Michael stole the show by turning a few of his smoke bats into real bats, which proceeded to nest in the foppish Elizabethen wig he was wearing. The room filled with laughter, as the man threw off his wig, revealing his bald head, but he soon joined in the laughter as well.
The party continued, until almost 4am, when the DJ had to leave. Rachel had the limo take her home first, so the others had to wait at the house for their limo to return before leaving. Michael cradled Nick, who by that time was quite drunk. Nick just kept grinning stupidly, as he nodded off in Michael's arms.
Derek had to use the restroom. Excusing himself, and after getting the directions from Janette, he went to the nearest one. Derek locked the door and walked over to the toilet. He fumbled with his costumes, until he was able to get out his member. By this time of night, and after all the partying, it felt so good to relieve himself. Done, he tucked himself away and straightened out his costume. He always was concerned with being presentable.
He stepped out of the restroom, only to be pushed up against the wall. Before he could react, a mouth pressed up against his. It was warm and inviting. Then, as quickly as it had begun, it pulled away. Derek, flushed, looked and saw Janette standing there, smiling.
"Trick or treat, Derek. Thanks for the treat."
"Janette."
"Maybe I'll stay in town longer than I first expected, now that I have a reason."
Derek smiled at her. She was one of a kind, full of goodness and mischief. Perhaps a relationship with her would not be a bad idea. What harm could a date or two do anyway?
