Major Geoffrey Boothroyd, author of The Handgun, suggested to Ian
Fleming that Bond should use the Walther PPK instead of the Beretta .25. In
the Bond novels, the silenced Beretta would snag on the waistband of Bond's
pants until M finally made Bond change to a different weapon. Bond chose the
Walther PPK 7.65mm and from then on into the movies, Agent 007 used the PPK.

For 17 movies, Bond has used his trusty 7.65mm Walther PPK. However, in the
newest movie, Tomorrow Never Dies,
James Bond is introduced to the
new and more powerful Walther P99 9mm pistol. The P99 is a double/single action
polymer framed pistol with a 16 shot magazine capacity. There is more power
than the PPK. HandGunning magazine gave the P99 a rave review, calling
it the gun designed for the next millenium. However, it seems like Pierce
Brosnan liked the PPK better, stating that Bond's "Walther PPK was one of the
reasons why Bond is better than Batman."| Caliber | 9mm x 19mm Parabellum |
