'Aflatoon' is a suspense thriller based on (the usual) mistaken identity, deciet, black mail and off
course love.

A rough charming street guy (Akshay Kumar) hopes of making it big one day by earning as much money as he possibly can. How to do it is the big question. On one of his usual aimless days with his friends he comes across a file that belongs to a lecturer in college. By sheer co-incidence the lecturer has an interview in a college that is solely fo rich kids. So our bored hero goes to the college as the lecturer and plans to 'pull' a rich girl (Urmila Matondkar) by wooing in her every way possible. He rescues her when she's about to be raped (sound familiar?) and accordingly falls in love with our handsome hero. All's well that ends well right?

Well not quite. The girl's father Anupam Kher does not approve of the guy because when he sees him he thinks the guy is the nasty villian Rocky (Akshay Kumar again) who's been blackmailing him for several years. So the good Akshay hatches a plot to get rid of the bad Akshay. How he succeeds form
the crux of the story...

Verdict

Well the story sounds the same old drab. But 'Aflatoon' has a number of redeeming factors. Dilip Sen - Sameer Sen's catchy music being one. Secondly, Akshay Kumar is quite good this time around especially as the villian. His character is along the lines of Jack Nicholson in Batman and Akshay is quite convincing. The good Akshay is off course the usual Akshay we're all so used to but he's not all that bad. Urmila looks absoloutely ravishing - she sets the screen on fire with stylish outfits and the perfect figure to carry them off. The sexuality is not that blatant (a la 'Daud') but rather chic and frankly more acceptable. Her performance isn't that bad either. Anupam Kher is just about okay - he looks fairly disinterested in his role. Shazia Malik is absolutely appalling - she looks like a gangster moll alright but a look maketh not a role.

The choreography is good and so is the presentation. Slick editing and good action - well it's bearable anyway. Sadly this one isn't doing too well at the box office which only adds to Akshay's misery...
