Joshua Carter Jackson was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada on June 11th, 1978. He spent the first eight years of his life in California. His family returned to Canada and at the age of nine he decided he wanted to pursue an acting career. His mother, Fiona, a casting director, understood how harsh a career in acting could be. She decided to take him to an audition hoping to discourage him, but instead of being discouraged he received a part in a commercial for Keeblers potato chips. These commercials got Joshua's talent recognized, and he began receiving many other roles which all led him to where he is today.
