What made Antz work was the fact that it had a brilliant screenplay and top-notch voice talent. The computer animation, which was excellent, was what polished Antz into a total standout film of the year. Woody Allen was perfect as the ant "Z" "the middle child out of a million". The script integrates his neurotic style of comedy into the format of an ant working in a colony. This clever writing will be many young people’s first exposure to the wonderfully crazy world of Woody Allen. Sylvester Stallone also put in a strong performance as Z’s soldier friend. The entire movie was cast well, having actors play ant counterparts very similar to their public personas. The ants were even designed to look like the actors playing their voices!

Another thing that set this film apart from other animated fare was the 1984/Brave New World-esque story. The ideals of individuality were conveyed through a fun adventure. Also, the physics of the film were dead on, including a fantastic sequence in which Z is trapped in a drop of water! The detailed and creative micro-world that is created for you is very cool! Antz is imaginative work that will be enjoyed for years to come.
