Imagine that one day you wake up in the middle of the night naked in a bathtub at a sleazy motel with no recollection of how you got there. You get out of your tub and awkwardly put on some clothes, when all of the sudden a group of men in trench coats and wide 40’s-style hats enter the room and attempt to do away with you. After barely escaping them you must figure out how to put the shards you remember of your life together, all the while eluding detection by these shadowy figures. Welcome to Dark City…

Dark City’s film noir punch comes from the stunning art deco designs and Metropolis-like feeling. The mystery plot keeps you on your toes and the truth turns out to be a much bigger deal than suspected! Dark City was this year’s only really stylistic film. The performances worked in this warped version of our world, especially my favorite actor, Richard O’Brien as the evil "Mr. Hand", who was more demonic than we had ever seen him before. This film is quite underrated.
