There's a new wave of young sound coming from the Eastern Shore of the US. The new hit band, Sweet Penny, with their songs "Innocent", "Superstar", and "Garbage" are bringing in the beat with some rap, alternative, and r&b. This eclectic music is opening up for everyone with ears. They aren't known all over yet, but they will soon. The two, yes, just two, members of the band are only 14 and 13! Sweet Mag had the special opportunity to be the first ones to interview them. But first, here is a little bit of info on them:
Name: | Jen | Lauren |
Instruments: | Vocals/Lead Guitar/Drums | Vocals/Rhythm Guitar |
Age: | 14 years old, 2/19 (Aquarius) | 13 years old, 5/20 (Taurus) |
Sweet Penny (Jen): Wow, what a coincidence! "Sweet Penny" and "Sweet Magazine" both have "Sweet" in them! That's pretty weird. Sweet Mag: Yea, that's pretty neat. Speaking of "sweet", you guy's are so young! When did you start writing songs? Sweet Penny (Lauren): Well, Jen was writing songs ever since Elementary School. We both got into it mainly in Junior High. Probably starting at about the 5th or 6th grade. Sweet Mag: How do you guys manage to play all those instruments with only the two of you? It must be very difficult! Jen: Yea, it's not exactly easy. What we do, is we record the vocals and guitars in first, then I go back and record in the drums. That's the best way that we've thought of so far. Besides getting more members, of course. Sweet Mag: Where do you get most of your ideas for songs? Lauren: This is kinda weird to say, but both of us usually get out ideas when we're in the shower. There you are, alone, no one to bother you, so you're mind goes free and you can express you're feelings. Sweet Mag: You're song "Garbage" shows a lot of anger and sounds like you know what it's like to be treated like garbage from a guy. What expierences do you have of that? Jen: Well, we don't really have major examples of that. When I was in 6th grade I went out with a guy that sort of just abandonded me when I was trying to get to know him better. I think we were just trying to speak for all of the girls that are hurt in this song in a general sort of way. Sweet Mag: Well, you guy's have a great out look ahead of you, so good luck! Sweet Penny: Thank you!
And for your listening pleasure, we have a sneak preview of one of the songs on their album!
