Dark stage set like office area--several desks, etc. In center stands GABRIEL shrouded and leaning on staff. A small spot comes up on him slowly.
GABRIEL: It seems so long ago that it happened... it hasn't been all that long, but it seems that way. I thought... I thought my disguise was perfect, I thought I was concealed from all of them... I thought they'd never find out that I wasn't one of them... but I thought wrong.
(as GABRIEL talks, people begin to enter in the darkness, moving in pantomime)
GABRIEL: My disguise... to make me look like one of them... it should have been perfect. It should have never failed...
(lights come up full, very abruptly. At same time people around begin to talk quietly, creating the sound of a busy office. GABRIEL sits at a nearby desk.)
PAULA: (near back of stage, in crowd) Gabriel! (pushes up to him) Gabriel, do you have that report for Michael ready yet?
GABRIEL: I'm just finishing up, Paula. If you wait here...
PAULA: No problem. Actually, I didn't think you'd be anywhere near finishing it up. That's how most people here are, anyway. Need a few more workers like you, I guess.
GABRIEL: (writing) Mm-hmm. Here you go.
PAULA: Thanks, Gabriel. Hey, a few of us are getting together for coffee later. Want to join us?
GABRIEL: Yes, I think I would. Thanks.
