"Nightmare"

Unlike my others, this poem has been written from Goliath's point of view.
This poem draws mostly from information given during the second and third seasons of Gargoyles, particularly from
"Future Tense."

Looking
Across the horizon
At a building--
Destroyed.

Once home

Now. . .
Destroyed.

Thinking
Of a Nightmare
Where our home
Had been
Destroyed. . . .

Thinking
Of those hurt. . .
Those abandoned. . .
Those who died. . .
Those who were betrayed. . .

And the one who betrayed them.

Thinking
Of the fear. . .
The loss. . .
The relief
At discovering it
A Nightmare. . .

Or a prophesy

Thinking
Of the shock
Of discovering
The traitor. . .

Thinking
Of the realization--
And discovering
The changeling.

Thinking
Of his words:
"Was it a dream.
Or a prophesy?"

Thinking
Of losing friends. . .
Of losing kin. . .
Of losing years. . .
Of. . .

Of killing the traitor. . .

Thinking
Of the return. . . .
Of having the friends. . .
Of having the kin. . .
Of having the years. . .
Of the traitor. . . .

Thinking
Of the home
Destroyed in the
Nightmare. . .
Destroyed in
Reality.

Of the heir
In the Nightmare--
Killed.
Of the heir
In reality--
Born.

Of the traitor
Betraying the heir. . .
Hurting the heir. . .
Killing the heir
In the Nightmare.

Of the traitor
Holding the heir. . .
Caring for the heir. . .
Doting on the heir
In Reality.

Of the changeling--
Still around.
And of his taunting. . .

Or warning. . .

Dream? . . . or
Prophesy?

Of the way things
May become.

Thinking
Of how
Reality
Slowly turns
Toward
The Nightmare.

Of the similarities. . .
Of the differences. . .
One difference--
The lost years.

Of the fear
That this
Horrid. . .
Terrible. . .
Terrifying
Nightmare

May
Come
True.
