He doesn't just play Superman--this guy does everything but catch bullets
in his teeth. During the summer hiatus from his hit show, Lois & Clark,
the son of director Christopher Cain (Young Guns)--a football all-American
at Princeton who played briefly with the Buffalo Bills--acted in his first
feature, Independence, with wonder woman Drew Barrymore.

The quintessential Renaissance man, Cain has written several Lois & Clark
episodes; he starred in, produced and directed Off Camera, a one-hour ABC
special about the behind-the-scenes lives of celebrities; and he once
addressed Congress about the importance of arts and education.

For two weeks, questions have poured in from E! Online members, and Cain
has chosen 20 to answer. Ladies and gentlemen, put your hands together for
Dean Cain.

From heretic-at-large: People always tell me they see you eating sushi. Do
you prefer hand rolls or your standard two-piece combo?

I love all kinds of sushi--except sea urchin!

From pooh: If I were to bump into you at the supermarket, what impression
would I get from what I'd see in your cart?

That I eat healthy.

From remmer: Have you ever worn the cape off the set?

Never worn the cape off the set--it's not comfortable.

From the doctor: While with the Buffalo Bills, did you ever go to training
camp on the State University of New York at Fredonia campus? And if so,
when?

Yes, I was at training camp there in July 1988. I got injured there, and
had to retire that November.

From skywalker: I know you must be pretty busy with your Lois & Clark
schedule, but are you working on any movies for the big screen?

I am starring in Independence, which is scheduled to be released in March.
It also stars Sean Patrick Flannery, Drew Barrymore and Mitchell Whitfield.
I describe it as a cross between Dog Day Afternoon and Diner. It has plenty
of action, drama and humor, and I hope people like it. It was a lot of fun
to shoot.

From stargazer61: I heard that you were one of Greg Louganis' top choices
to portray him in a TV movie about his life. Were you approached about the
role, and if so, were you interested?

I was never approached about the role, but I find it very flattering that
an athlete and person of Greg's caliber and character would consider me
suitable to portray his life.

From rebel: Is there anything you'd like to see develop with your character
that you haven't been able to achieve?

I would love to see Clark Kent become a husband and father--it is
undiscovered territory.

From samantha_joy: How do you manage your time being both an actor and a
writer?

Actually, writing for me can sometimes be an escape. Plus, when you're
consumed by something as demanding as Lois & Clark, it's great to have a
say in what types of adventures you get to encounter.

From sharper: With your shooting schedule, how do you find time to stay in
such good shape, write Lois & Clark scripts and still learn your lines and
turn in such good performances?

The most important thing I learned in college was time management. With all
the demands on my time, it's very difficult, but thanks to my college
years...so far, so good!

From the doctor: Do you know if there are plans for a new Superman movie,
and if there are would you be willing to play the lead?

I know there has been a discussion about a new one for some time, but as of
now, no one has contacted me regarding the project.

From tequila-gal: Recently, a local Orlando radio station took a poll of
listeners to see who they thought would be the best replacement for Keanu
Reeves in the upcoming movie, Speed 2. We have since learned it will be
Jason Patric, but at least you know that you're tops with us in Orlando!

I love that in Orlando people voted me to replace Keanu! I would have loved
to do it! Sandra Bullock would be wonderful to work with, to say the least!
I truly appreciate the support--and hey, who knows what will happen next
year!

From davewillie: What are your predictions for the upcoming football season?
Which teams will win the AFC, NFC and Super Bowl?

Many people are picking my former team, the Buffalo Bills, to win not just
the AFC but the Super Bowl. That's very possible, but I say look out for
Miami, with Dan Marino and Jimmy Johnson. In the NFC, I think Dallas once
again--with the 49ers right behind.

From shorty_jenn: Do you ever wish you could play football for the Bills
again instead of acting?

I think I'm too old--30--and too smart to play football again. The toll on
a person's body is incredible. I want to live a healthy life now, with less
pain!

From essence: Dean, weren't you in a movie called Mark Witness?

I wrote a movie called Marked Witness, but to this day, it hasn't been made.

From ktjones: Everyone from a network suit to the person who locks the
studio gate has an opinion on what direction a TV show should take. You've
written scripts for Lois & Clark, only to see them morph from one thing on
the typed page to something else on tape. Do you find this frustrating?

It's true everyone has an opinion, and that's great--at least people care!
Unfortunately, it does take time to become the most important opinion on
the totem pole, and as a writer, often you have to divorce yourself from a
script once you've written it or you'll go nuts!

From sharper: If for one day, you could chuck your responsibilities and go
anywhere in the world (like Superman: superfast, and no cost), where would
you go and what would you do?

I would go to a deserted island, sit in a hammock in the shade, sleep a lot
and swim in the crystal blue water from time to time. Then I would return
to the hammock--and take another nap!

From alleycat: I'm from Australia and was wondering if you are planning to
visit us again soon? Also, do you have a favorite place Down Under?

I loved my last visit to Australia! It would be great to visit again--
especially the Gold Coast and Surfer's Paradise. And Sydney is the only
city I have ever visited outside the U.S. that I would live in right now.

From aurora: As a struggling student, (actress, vocalist and writer), are
there any helpful tips you'd be willing to share with me on succeeding in
these areas?

Aurora, just keep plugging away! There are few things more common than
talented people who lack the drive to accomplish their goals.

From shabier: I've been dying to know what kind of eyeglass frames (both
the name and the model) you wear. I've been searching at every optical
store in a 300-mile radius, showing them Clark's picture and trying to get
the frame. Please, pleeeeease answer my question. Thanks so much. I truly
appreciate it.

I wear, oddly enough, a Calvin Klein frame, though I am unsure what model.
You can call Pepper's Eyewear in Santa Monica--they supply my glasses.
(Unofficial plug for business!)

From yikes: Were you surprised at the popularity of Lois & Clark, especially
overseas?

When you create a television show, it is so hard to gauge how the public
will react. You hope they like it, but you never know. If I could predict,
I'd be the president of ABC. I thought Lois & Clark could do really well--I
loved the concept. But we didn't do that well at first, and the more I
understood about the world of TV, the less I expected the show to be a
success. Now, I am completely shocked at the popularity--especially
overseas! It's amazing, and I'm nothing but humble and grateful! And I still
don't know how it all works!
