This issue starts with the demoted duo of Vlad and Natasha, vampires who are now responsible for facilities maintenance (they're janitors). They still want absolute power over the undead, even if it means going through their master, the Lich-King. Luckily, Vlad acquired a Book of Magic on CD-ROM and a magical powerbook. But this has little to do with this issue.
And even with the impending capture and destruction of the Diggers family, whom he was once (and still is) a part of, the Lich-King still finds time to sort through office work like selecting a new secretary to replace Natasha. Also non-essential.
Elsewhere on Jade, villagers have helped Gina, Brianna and Gar with the construction of a rescue ship. The ship gets a good field test when Bri and Gina are attacked by dragons. The good guys live. Yay!
Nixt. Brendan, that evil-doer werewolf who killed the entire werecheetah clan except for Britanny, has now thought of an appropriate ending to her life. Brit is suddenly freed, and even with her speed she is unable to reach Brendan because he's turned her to stone. Boo!
The Lich-King gets Brendan to go after the rest of the Diggers, along with Genn, Mesha and Tark, and Brod (a troll friend). They get in a few hits on Brendan, and the Lich-King sends in a clean-up crew to replace Brendan. Not taking kindly to the aid, he turns on the bad guys too just as Gina and Brianna arrive. As Brianna puts it, "I smell a free-for-all!!"
They take him down. Hard. He drops the obelisk which gave him near-infinite power, and everything gets restored to normal as all of the magic-users get their magic back. Brendan teleports back to where the obelisk is with the last of his strength. He's about to pick it up again when he recalls where Britanny is.
(Imagine "Rocky" in the meat freezer. Substitute Rocky for Britanny, and Brendan for the slab of meat.)
Brit is, forgive the expression, pissed. The one person who destroyed her race, her clan, and was personally responsible for the senseless death of her mother and father lies in front of her, helpless. Britanny is quite capable of murder at this point, and she makes no effort to hide this fact from Brendan.
Theo, her adopted father, teleports in and distracts her in a discussion of morality, just long enough for Brendan to reach for the obelisk. Dr. Diggers warns him, too late, that the obelisk can only be touched once per person. And as the last of his flesh is flayed away, as the last of his life is vaporized, Britanny says, "Have a nice trip to hell, Brendan."
So, all is resolved. That is, until the Lich-King decides to personally appear to destroy his son Theo once and for all.
Forgive the review. I own neither the previous nor the continuing issue to this one.
I love Brianna in this one. This is Brianna's issue if you ask me. (You didn't, but your reading this which means you're captive. ^_^ ) Her love, no, passion for weaponry is so prevalent and comedic here that one cannot help but to fall in love with her.
Brendan meets a fitting end here, and Britanny is pitied and strengthened for having the characteristic of justice in her. Beyond that, not much else really happens this issue. It's just an issue of fury, retribution and justification. A very good issue indeed.
The artwork is fine, and the cover tells little if you don't know the story so far (although it is drawn well). I liked the way the story was told, as a lot of the plot for this storyline was revealed here. Good work.
