Storyline: Vince Everett (Elvis Presley) kills someone during a fight in a bar and gets imprisoned. His cell-mate Hank Houghton (Mickey Shaughnessy), a former country & western singer, recognizes Vince's singing-talent. They make a contract to perform together and to share the profit. Out of jail, Vince tries to get a job as singer, but nobody seems to notice him. Only after he gets help of Peggy van Alden (Judy Tyler) does he achieve success. They start a record-company together. But after his time in jail Vince had become a cynic, and he rejects the Peggy's interest. He seems only to be interested in fame and fortune. He changes after a fight with Hank, who doesn't accept his behavior. During the fight Vince's throat gets injured, which puts his career in danger.
