The Kids in the Hall are reuniting and hitting the road. The members of the often-off-colour comedy troupe, who had their own CBC series from 1989 to 1995, have announced that they will kick off a 25-city North American tour in Vancouver on Jan. 13.
All five original Kids -- Dave Foley, Bruce McCulloch, Kevin McDonald, Mark McKinney and Scott Thompson -- will take part in the tour -- their first collaboration since the 1996 movie Brain Candy. It stops in Toronto on Jan. 26 and 27.
The Kids in the Hall began performing together in 1984. They were discovered by Saturday Night Live executive producer Lorne Michaels, who helped them make the transition from live performances to television. In their six seasons on the air, the Kids were responsible for originating such memorable characters as the Chicken Lady, the Head Crusher, Buddy Cole, Hecubus and Monsieur Pied Lourde. First-run episodes of The Kids in the Hall aired on three networks: CBC, CBS and HBO.
Since the Kids disbanded, Foley has appeared as a regular on Newsradio and has made films such as A Bug's Life. McKinney joined the cast of Saturday Night Live, then made the jump to film. Kevin McDonald is currently a writer on The Martin Short Show, and both Thompson and McCulloch have continued with stage work.
McCulloch is currently touring his one-man show Slightly Bigger Cities. He also recently directed the feature films Dog Park and Superstar.
