The Cyclops 1957

Picture

Writen and Directed by - Bert I. Gordon

Starring - Gloria Talbott, James Craig, Tom Drake, Lon Chaney Jr.

Gloria hires a plane and pilot (Tom Drake) to go down to Mexico to search for her fiance who crashed his plane there three years earlier. She brings along her fiance's best friend (James Craig) and a nutty prospector (Lon Chaney Jr) who's looking for uranium. As they're flying over a canyon Lon freaks out and damn near causes the plane to crash. They manage to pull off an emergency landing very close to the spot where they suspect the fiance crashed.

Upon landing they find that the entire area is highly radioactive and is inhabited by giant lizzards and mammals that like to eat anything that moves. They also come across a 25 foot tall dude with only one eye. Can you guess who that could be? That's right, but it took our heros the whole film to figure it out.

Lon freaks out again and takes a couple of pot shots at the big guy and gets ripped to pieces for his trouble. The surviving three then try to get away but are followed by the cyclops dude back to the plane. One of our heros sticks a torch into the big guy's one remaining eye. They take off with the big dude's arms flailing all over the place trying to knock them out of the air.

Typical cheapie flick with normal size animals and lizzards looking big but not much else happening. Lon, really hams it up in this one. It's okay if you've got nothing else to do.
