THE CASE
Screenplay by

FOURTH DRAFT:
March 20, 1997
FADE IN:
INT. DARK ROOM - DAY
A dark room with a large table and two chairs. On the
table is a lamp, a briefcase with a handcuff attached to
it, and an ashtray with a cigar smoldering and smoking
the air around it. A MAN sitting at the table picks up
the cigar and begins to smoke. The Man is a darkly lit
figure who exists in the shadows. A GAURD enters leading
an AGENT with a blindfold over his eyes.
MAN
(Looking at watch)
Ahh, Your early.
AGENT
We beat rush hour.
MAN
So I see...
(to Guard)
I think that blindfold
can come off now.
The GAURD removes the blindfold revealing the Agent’s
facial features.
MAN
Good, now I can brief you.
AGENT
Wait, I have a few questions.
MAN
Sorry, there are no questions
here.
AGENT
I just want to know...
The Guard pulls out and arms his automatic. Then points
it against the Agent’s head. The Man takes a long drag
off his cigar.
MAN
Your the curious type aren’t
you? That’s not why your here.
Do we understand each other?
AGENT
Yes sir.
MAN
Good...
The Guard lowers his gun and puts it in his holster.
MAN
I’m not at liberty to
discuss what is in the
package, except there have
been some measures to be
sure it isn’t compromised
in transit.
The Man points out the several parts of the Briefcase in
front of him as he speaks.
MAN
First, There is approximately
one-pound of C-4 plastic
explosive inside the case. If
any forced entry occurs, then
the case with automatically
explode. There are two specific
combinations that must be entered
in each lock. Again, if the
improper sequence is entered,
the case with explode. The
handcuff unit is a new feature.
It is electronically monitored
so if it is separated from or
tampered with the case it will
again detonate.
AGENT
And if I die?
MAN
That’s what makes the
handcuff a special feature.
Along with it being monitored
to make sure it isn’t being
tampered or separated from
the case, it monitors your
blood pressure and pulse rate.
Should you...”God Forbid”
terminate, the package will
also detonate.
AGENT
Thank god for Uncle Sam...
MAN
That’s purely UN-official...
You understand?
AGENT
Yes sir.
MAN
Good, Your playmate here will
see to it that you make delivery
without incident. Let me see
your left hand...
The Agent puts his left hand out and the Man cuffs him
to the case.
MAN
Okay, you can go now. You
already know where the drop-off
point is. Your scheduled to be
there at 08:00...Tomorrow. It
is now 11:30 AM. Good luck.
The Agent gets up from his chair. The GAURD blindfolds
him and leads him out of the room, as the Man takes
another long drag from his smoking cigar.
