(Jason and Sam are sitting on the floor of the penthouse passing around boxes of Chinese food, after Sam's latest failed attempt at making dinner for Jason.)
Sam: "Okay. You have to try this." (holds chopsticks toward Jason)
Jason: "What is it?"
Sam: "It's delicious. That's what it is."
Jason: "No, No, No…" (shaking head)
Sam: "Come on, just close your eyes."
Jason: "Squid!?!"
Sam: "Come on! Close your eyes, don't think about it."
Jason: "Are you serious?"
Sam: "Yeah, okay, you don't have to close your eyes."
Jason: "Okay…" (Sam feeds Jason, he gets a disgusted look on his face) "Uugh…"
Sam: (laughing) "What?"
Jason: "It's not gonna replace hamburgers anytime soon." (wipes his mouth off)
Sam: "Are you kidding me? Did you just crack a joke? Because if you did, I think I'm hearing things."
Jason: "Well, you're…you're hearing things." (reaches over to grab another box of food) "I'm gonna eat this right here."
Sam: "Alright. It's all yours, go ahead." (Jason looks questionably at what's in the box) "So, I've been thinking about what I can do to make myself useful around here…"
Jason: "I already…I told you not to worry about that."
Sam: "Okay, well I can't cook. I think we've established that. And I can't clean, obviously. I can't do windows, cause I'm too short and they'll get all streaky." (Jason laughs) "But, if you give me some scuba gear and a salvage operation, I can definently get the job done."
Jason: "I'll keep that in mind." (smiles)
Sam: "And I'm an expert safe cracker. Excellent shot with a handgun. If you ever need my help, I'm good backup."
Jason: (no longer smiling) "No, you're…you're kidding right?"
Sam: (still smiling) "Yeah, I am."
Jason: "Okay."
Sam: "But if you did ever need my help ever--"
Jason: (with concern) "But seriously. Sam, your gonna have to promise me that you'll never get involved in my business."
Sam: "I really was just kidding." (Jason looks relieved) "I understand that your work is completely off limits. And to be honest with you, I wouldn't want to you know? Whatever, you do what you do and that's fine, and that's part of being with you."
Jason: "And your okay with that?"
Sam: "Yes. I told you Jason, I'm not afraid of you or your job. And I'll never judge you. I don't think anything you could do could ever change how I feel about you." (Jason stares at Sam)
Jason: "Then there is something that...you could do for me."
Sam: (gets up all excited) "I finally get to do something for you! So if you just name it and tell me what it is then I'll make sure it --" (Jason gets up and takes Chinese food from Sam and sets them down. He grasps her hands into his.)
Jason: (deep breath) "Will you marry me?"
Sam: "It wouldn't be fair to get married for the wrong reasons. If…if it were giving the baby a home or maybe because you feel obligated or--"
Jason: No, no…It's simpler than that."
Sam: "Is it?"
Jason: "Do you want to marry me? Because I wanna marry you. (pause) I wanna marry you because I want you in my life."
Sam: "Are you sure…this isn't about Hope?"
Jason: "Well, she made everything clearer. But, I'd be asking you anyway. (deep breath) When you moved out, it made me realize how important you are to me. How everything changed because of you. You asked me questions, and you made me think about things I hadn't before. You trusted me. You opened up to me…and I found myself trusting you, too. Then I started looking forward to seeing you. Thinking about you during the day, actually wanting to be home."
Sam: "I was feeling all of those things, too." (starts to cry)
Jason: "Sam, you’re the person I wanna be with. And when you walked out, I missed you all the time."
Sam: "I missed you too. Jason, more and more than I ever thought I would."
Jason: "I don't want to ever walk out again. Please. I want you to stay…forever. I love you."
Sam: "I never…I never ever expected to hear you say you love me. I mean, even if you thought it. I couldn't imagine you saying it."
Jason: "Yeah, for a long time I couldn't either."
Sam: "What changed your mind?"
Jason: "You. You know, just your honesty. And, I decided that I to be honest…too. Sam, love isn't always enough. You know, I still have other commitments. I'm part of a business that is brutal…and illegal."
Sam: "I know that."
Jason: "My work is not…its not gonna change. So you seriously need to think about the risk…and the stress. And if you can't live with it, I'll just deal with it."
Sam: "Jason, I have lived most of my life with danger and the possibility of getting hurt. And it can be hard, but it just…it makes the good times all more precious. I don't…I don't wanna change who you are. You have to understand that."
Jason: "Okay. I will do everything I can, to protect you."
Sam: "I told you. I'm a survivor. You don't have to worry about that."
Jason: "Hopefully we'll do more than just survive."
Sam: "Wow. I've um…I've been through a lot in my life. But the one thing I have never experienced in falling in love and having it returned. Now I know what it is. Because it is, I think…yeah, it is. It's what I'm feeling right now. And I'm scared. I love you too, Jason. I really do. And I wanna marry you. So, yes! My answer is yes!" (they kiss)
Jason: (still holding Sam's hands) "I'm sorry, I didn't have an engagement ring to give you."
Sam: (laughs) "Oh, looks like you gonna have to take me shopping."
Jason: (smiles) "That's fine. I'll take you shopping."
Sam: "Seriously Jason, a ring…it doesn't matter. I have your love and we have a lifetime to spend with each other. And that's all that really matters to me. And that's a better gift than any ring." (they kiss again)
(There's a knock at the door. Jason and Sam look frustrated at getting interrupted yet again…)
Jason: "Who is it?"
Courtney: "Jason, its Courtney. It's important."
(Jason and Sam look worried. Jason walks over to door and opens it. Sam stays by the couch.)
Jason: "What happened?"
Courtney: "Can I come in?" (walks in looks and looks over at Sam) "I'm so sorry. But Bridget's changed her mind. She's taking her baby back."
