IN MEMORY OF BRUCE LEE

20 July 1973

Born in San Francisco in 1940, Lee moved with his family to Hong Kong where he appeared in his first film in 1946. But he was sent back to the U.S. after Hong Kong police became aware of his propensity for street fighting. He enrolled in college, taught martial arts and met Linda, the woman who became his wife. He not only started his own martial arts school, he built it into a franchise and pursued an acting career, landing the part of Kato on the TV series The Green Hornet. He achieved international renown with his classic Hong Kong martial arts films, Fists of Fury, Enter the Dragon and Way of the Dragon. At the time of his sudden and mysterious death at 32, Lee was the essential self-made man who combined Eastern martial-arts philosophy with Western movie-making magic.
