BOOGEYMAN, THE

(1980, USA)

DIRECTED BY: Ulli Lonnell.

German art film maker Lonnell made his regular (if you'd call it that) film debut with this film. It's a supernatural horror tale which borrows ( or steals) from The Omen, Exorcist and Amityville Horror.

It has a sister and brother haunted by the evil spirit of their mothers lover. The spirit of the guy is within a mirror which is unleashed when it is smashed. After it is put together the pieces cause nasty deaths (ie: girl gets both blades of a pair of scissors jammed in her throat).

Cheesy in some ways but it kept me watching until the impressive conclusion where a priest confronts a woman possessed by a piece of the mirror. Some decent special effects while the mirror effects look chintzy but in a good sort of way. One to look out for. The ending is your usual it's not dead yet type deal. Followed by a sequel of course.

Rating: 3 ½ Skulls
