BURNING, THE

(1982, USA)

DIRECTED BY: Tony Maylam.

An enjoyable slasher, all the more better with Tom Savini's make-up effects. A camp grounds keeper has a prank pulled on him by some summer campers which results in him being horribly burnt and disfigured. Years later after the ordeal he goes back to the camp to get some revenge (why do these guys always take their misfortune out on innocent victims instead of finding the people responsible?).

As it goes he cuts through campers literally using a pair of trimming shears in some very impressive ways. Savini's finger snipping sequence goes down as a classic gore moment in cinematic horror history. Of course the ex-grounds keeper turned killer gets offed himself but not before dispatching a handful of nubile campers. It might be a Friday The 13th rip off but it's a good one that can stand on it's own. There are much worse slashers out there I can mention.
