CANDYMAN: FAREWELL TO THE FLESH
(1995, USA)
DIRECTED BY: Bill Condon.
This sequal is definetly on par with the original even with the abscence of Clive Barker. I surprisingly enjoyed the film a lot more then expected. The presence of good gore effects and some moments which make-ya jump help. Maybe my friends stereo sound TV had something to do with it as well. I'm not saying that this is perfect and I probably wouldn't watch it again because I rarely watch a film twice no matter what it is. Film has future generations of the Candyman (Tony Todd) being terrorized by his tyranny during the Mardi Gras in New Orleans.
The radio broadcaster named "Kingfish" who had many talk segments throughout the film can get a bit annoying but it's nothing serious. The lead lady of the film (Kelly Rowan) is Canadian I think. The gore effects which are quite messy including a scene where Rowan's boyfriend gets a hook shoved through his stomach and ran up to his upper chest. The menacing bee's that inhabit the Candyman are quite nasty as well. The Candyman orgin scene was really cool with the hand sawing. Very impressive effects at the final confrontation sequance as well where the Candyman gets his just deserts.
As usually in these type of films there is a dumb ending but at least it makes sure there isn't another sequal. Tony Todd's voice as the Candyman was quite cruddy, it sounded like a tired person's voice amplified and made into a loud whisper. All in all horror fans should definetly give this a watch. I liked it quite a bit.
